A team of five Freehold Township High School whiz kids prevailed against students from Colts Neck High School, Freehold High School, Howell High School, Manalapan High School, Marlboro High School, Raritan High School and Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School yesterday and were crowned the Monmouth County champs of the annual Consumer Bowl, a a game-show-style competition for teams of high school students which was held at the Fire Academy in Howell. Four inmates at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution got their high school diplomas today through an online program administered by the Monmouth-Ocean Educational Services Commission, according to a press release from Sheriff Shaun Golden.
“I am gratified by the commitment made by today’s graduates to use their time at MCCI in a constructive manner that will benefit them for the rest of their lives,” said Sheriff Golden. “The wrong choices that brought the graduates to MCCI have provided these individuals the opportunity to make right choices about furthering their education and changing their lives.” Read the rest of this entry »

Four Monmouth County high school students enrolled in Communications High School in Wall Township were named the winners of the Congressional App Challenge from New Jersey’s 4th District, Congressman Chris Smith announced on Wednesday.
“The App Challenge encourages school students to become active in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields, computer science and programming by creating and exhibiting their software applications,” said Smith. “This challenge is an important step to inspire creativity, career skills and teamwork, which can help participating students to be poised for high-tech jobs of the future.”
