Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty has been accused of fraud, tortious interference, breach of contract and breach of covenant in suit filed against Doherty personally and the Borough of Belmar by the landlord of Salt, the Harmon Brothers’ establishment whose liquor license transfer was denied by the Borough last Spring.

The suit filed by William Wolf of Bathgate, Wegener and Wolf on behalf a Loko Co, LLC, a development company owned by Gregory Kapalko, alleges that Doherty urged Kapalko to suspend the permitting applications with the NJ DEP for the construction of the waterfront property that Loko has an agreement with the Borough to redevelop and instead enter into a Joint Venture with Ollie Klein, the owner of Klein’s Fish Market, and Stephen and Mark Coleman, Florida based real estate investors. Doherty promised that the Borough would extend the schedule of the Redevelopment Agreement  if Klein and the Colemans were involved in the project, according to the suit.  Loko complied with Doherty’s suggestion and he reneged on the deal to extend the Redevelopment Agreement.

Golden Days: Monmouth GOP dominated county races

victory

Surrogate Rosemarie Peters, Sheriff Shaun Golden, Congressman Chris Smith, Freeholder Serena DiMaso and Freeholder Tom Arnone celebrate their victories on Election Night

By Art Gallagher

Monmouth County’s Democrat leadership is spinning the shellacking they took last week from Sheriff Shaun Golden, Surrogate Rosemarie Peters, Freeholder Director Tom Arnone and Freeholder Deputy Director Serena DiMaso as a function of President-elect Donald Trump’s performance in the county.

Vin’s spin is laughable on many levels.  Let’s hope he believes it.

The Monmouth GOP swept the county races because, under Golden’s leadership, they campaign the same way the govern.  They work smarter and harder with less money.

Doherty Gives $50K Of His Own Money To His Freeholder Campaign

caughtWhy would someone pay $50,000 to get a job that pays $27,000 per year and promise not to take the health benefits that go with the job?

That’s what Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty did yesterday, according to the report he filed with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission.

Like his friend Governor Chris Christie, Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty stuck taxpayers with the legal bills to fund his political ambition.

Doherty’s unlawful conduct in attempting to hide the identities of donors to his campaign for Monmouth County freeholder has cost the taxpayers of Belmar $122,910 for the legal fees of the citizens who successfully challenged Belmar’s violations of the Faulkner Act and the New Jersey Civil Rights Act in Court. When the borough’s legal fees to defend “Matt Law” are added, Doherty’s folly has cost Belmar taxpayers over $200,000.

Ken Pringle, Belmar’s former mayor and the attorney who represented the citizens who objected to “Matt’s Law” told MMM that Judge Katie Gummer awarded the legal fees to the plaintiffs on Thursday.

Watch MSNBC: Why you should know about Matt Doherty’s role in the Bridgegate investigation

Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty was a “key independent eye witness” in the Mastro Report, the $10 million plus investigation by Governor Chris Christie’s lawyers which purportedly exonerated Christie and other members of his administration of wrongdoing in the Bridgegate matter and other Port Authority related scandals.

Desperate Doherty’s wife denies Ashbritt connection, again

Maggie Moran, Democrat freeholder candidate Matt Doherty’s wife and former Governor Corzine’s Deputy Chief of Staff and campaign manager, wants the Monmouth GOP to stop telling Monmouth County voters that she and Matthew profited from the suffering of Jersey Shore residents in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Moran’s lawyer, Angelo Genova of the Newark law firm Genova Burns, LLC, sent a Cease and Desist Letter to the Monmouth County Republican Committee yesterday claiming that a mailer and TV commercial the GOP shared with Monmouth County voters this week is factually inaccurate and defames Moran.  Genova also sent the letter to the Common Sense for Belmar blog, who published the mailer.

Genova must think that Shaun Golden, Chairman and Tom Szymanski, Executive Director of the Monmouth GOP, as well as Dave Schneck, publisher of Common Sense for Belmar, don’t read MoreMonmouthMusings.

Desperate Doherty alleges voter suppression

doherty-voter-suppressionBelmar Mayor Matt Doherty, a Democrat candidate for Monmouth County Freeholder, has posted a plea to his supporters on social media to make sure they get out to vote for him because Republicans might try to suppress the vote.

Doherty linked his comment to an Asbury Park Press article about alleged voter suppression during the 1981 New Jersey gubernatorial election when Tom Kean, Sr defeated then Congressman Jim Floro by 1797 votes and the Democratic National Committee’s allegation that Donald Trump’s campaign in attempting to suppress minority turnout in this year’s election.

Lorenzo W. Dangler, president of the Greater Long Branch NAACP, told APP that he was unaware of any real fears of voter suppression in Monmouth County. Dangler emphasized that his organization has not endorsed any candidates.  “We’re neutral,” he said. Read the rest of this entry »

Belmar’s absentee mayor wants to be a freeholder

dirty_doherty-gone_missingBelmar Mayor Matt Doherty has taken a page out of Governor Chris Christie’s book by neglecting the job he was elected to while running for higher office.

The Asbury Park Press is reporting that Doherty has missed most of the Belmar governing body’s meetings since he became a Democrat nominee for Freeholder in June. The amount of meetings he has missed this year, 8, is more than double all of his absences in the previous five years combined.

Just like Christie said he could govern New Jersey via smart phone from New Hampshire and Iowa, Doherty says his absenteeism is no big deal.

“A council meeting is maybe two hours a month. I spend well over 20 hours a week being the mayor of Belmar. So for two hours a month if I’m not available, that has zero impact on the ability to perform my function as the mayor of the town,” Doherty told The Press.

Monmouth Dems Embrace The Rain Water Tax Champion

rain-tax-mmm-sm_We’re three weeks before Election Day and the only policy proposal that the Monmouth County Democratic candidates for County office have made is Surrogate candidate Vincent Solomeno’s pledge to blatantly break the law with regard to the access to death certificates.

Maybe that’s because they know if they reveal plans to impose a rain water tax on Monmouth County property owners, Lawless Matt Doherty and Sketchy Sue Fulton know that they would even lose in Democrat strongholds like Neptune Township and Long Branch.
