Five candidates have emerged to fill the vacancy in the State Assembly in the 30th Legislative District created by Dave Rible’s resignation to become the Director of the Alcohol Beverage Commission.

The GOP County Committees from the 30th Legislative District will select a candidate to fill vacancy and take Rible’s place on the general election ballot at a convention that is tentatively scheduled for August 9 at the IBEW #400 Union Hall in Wall. Dave Rible
Assemblyman Dave Rible confirmed a report by InsiderNJ that Governor Christie has nominated him to be the Director of Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The nomination appeared on the State Senate’s website on Thursday.
“I’m humbled with the Governor’s trust and confidence and I’m excited to move the ABC in a direction that helps both current and future licenses,” Rible, of Wall Township, said in a phone interview with MMM.
Rible said he would not resign his seat in the Assembly, where he holds the #2 Republican leadership position, until his appointment is confirmed by the Senate. Rible said he was uncertain about the timing of his confirmation. It could happen as soon as this month, he said, or it could happen after the election in November. He said he would stand for reelection to the Assembly if he is not confirmed before the election.

This column is for my Republican friends in the Assembly, especially those from Monmouth County.
Dave Rible, Rob Clifton, Sean Kean, Monmouth Republican Assembly Members who voted for gas tax in June, and Declan O’Scanlon who didn’t vote, should join Amy Handlin and Ronald Dancer, Republicans who represent parts of Monmouth and voted NO in June, in voting NO on Wednesday or whenever the bill that Governor Christie, Senate President Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto agreed to on Friday comes up for a vote.

Assemblyman Dave Rible, R-Monmouth and Ocean, stood up for the New Jersey State Police’s response to rioting gate crashers at Sunday night’s Summer Jam at MetLife Stadium.

Responding to ACLU of NJ Executive Director Udi Ofer’s call for the Attorney General to investigate the appropriate use of force at the event, Rible issued the following statement:
“It is irresponsible to call for an investigation into law enforcement officers who were simply doing the job they were asked to do, which was to break up an already ongoing riot and protect innocent bystanders,” Assemblyman Rible said. “We need to stop continuously placing the blame on our law enforcement and instead come together to show our support for those who were sworn in to protect and serve the public.”
Assemblyman Rible continued, “While there are certainly bad characters in every profession, we must not denigrate all of our law enforcement officers. In our increasingly dangerous world, we should not be undermining our officers’ ability to properly protect us and themselves. Instead, we need to target the bad actors who created this dangerous situation in the first place.”

Vin Gopal
Monmouth County Democratic insiders tell MMM that all Monmouth County and Legislative Republicans except Assemblywomen Caroline Casagrande and Mary Pat Angelini will essentially get a free pass to election this year as Democratic Chairman Vin Gopal has been unable to recruit candidates or raise money for the legislative races in legislative districts 12, 13 and 30, or the County Offices of Freeholder and Clerk.
Gopal is expected to leave the candidate recruitment in LDs 12 and 30 to the other counties included in those districts. The 30th district, currently represented in the Assembly by Republicans Dave Rible and Sean Kean, has 12 towns in Monmouth County and two in Ocean County. Seven of the fourteen towns in the 12th district are on Monmouth County. The other seven are split between Burlington, Ocean and Middlesex Counties. The 12th district is represented by Republicans Ron Dancer and Rob Clifton.
Gopal’s trial balloon last December of making a second run for Assembly in the 11th himself( he ran in 2011) went over like the Hindenburg with State Democrats, other County Chairs and Special Interest donors who he had convinced that the money they invested in Monmouth County last year would lead to a pick up of Freeholder seats.

An impressive crowd of over 400 Monmouth Republican County Committee members gathered on Saturday morning to nominate their candidates for State Assembly, County Clerk and Freeholder. The size of the crowd was impressive not only because of the weather but because the results of the convention were a foregone conclusion as there were no challengers to the incumbent Assembly Members, Freeholder or Governor Chris Christie’s nominee for County Clerk.
Free of any competitive tensions, the mood at Colts Neck High School was upbeat, friendly and proud among the grassroots leaders who came out for Chairman Shaun Golden first nominating convention. Freeholder Deputy Director Serena DiMaso noted both the size and enthusiasm of the crowd. “This crowd is almost as large as last year’s convention when we had a competition for the freeholder nominations,” DiMaso said, “We’re in really great shape and that is a testament to Shaun’s leadership.”

A message from Assemblyman Dave Rible:

By Assemblyman Dave Rible
With the summer season now here and tremendous excitement to get back to the beach, I strongly urge people to take preventative steps to guard against the most dangerous form of skin cancer, melanoma.
Over the last 30 years, the number of people diagnosed with melanoma has continually risen and the American Cancer Society estimates that more than 9,000 Americans will lose their battle with this deadliest type of skin cancer in 2013 alone. And that is only a fraction of the almost 77,000 cases of melanoma that are expected to be diagnosed this year.
Melanoma is different from most other cancers in that it commonly affects people of all ages. In fact, many melanoma victims are only in their twenties.
Like many other cancers, melanoma is very treatable if detected early. However, cases that are not treated early can become more serious and more difficult to treat, and can even be fatal.
I know firsthand the importance of early detection of this deadly disease. Having been diagnosed with malignant melanoma in January, I am thankful it was recognized early and was determined to be treatable.
However, many people diagnosed with melanoma are not so fortunate and that is why I strongly urge people to take advantage of the easy steps that can help to prevent this form of skin cancer. When going outside, using sunscreen is one of the simplest and most important ways to protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun.
In addition, you should take advantage of skin screenings and be aware of any changes to your skin, especially moles that are suspicious in shape, color, or change in appearance over time.
While melanoma can be deadly, the good news is that it can be prevented and treated by being proactive and utilizing a few simple steps.

~ Declan O’Scanlon
With remarkable teamwork on the part of the candidates, county and municipal leaders and key members of the legislative delegation outside of the 13th legislative district, the Monmouth County Republican Organization earned the resounding endorsement of a Republican electorate that has proven over the years that performance and integrity matter far more to them than party loyalty.
Big egos checked, big leaders pulled together to support each other. A real team emerged.
