Golden: Curley is tone deaf, disgraceful and puts himself first
Disgraced Freeholder John P. Curley filed to run for reelection as an Independent candidate this afternoon. NewJerseyGlobe was the first to report his candidacy and said he submitted over 400 signatures. In a press release, Curley said he would run under the banner, “Fighting Corruption Together.”
Curley compared himself to former Freeholders Ted Narozanick and Barbara McMorrow. “This Freeholders (sic) seat has a rich, bipartisan history of individuals that put people first, from Ted Narozanick to Barbara McMorrow, and people recognize that I am continuing their tradition. I look forward to serving the residents of Monmouth County for another three years,” he said in his release.

John P. Curley’s harassment of Monmouth County employees which resulted in his censure and reprimand by his fellow Freeholder last week, has put the County GOP in the position of choosing two new freeholder candidates in 2018.
In a letter sent yesterday to GOP leaders and elected officials, Chairman Shaun Golden made it clear that Curley will not have the Party’s support for reelection in 2018: Read the rest of this entry »Posted: December 14th, 2017 | Author: Art Gallagher | Filed under: Monmouth County News | Tags: Bob Walsh, Chairman Shaun Golden, Gerry Scharfenberger, John Curley, John P. “Congratulations to Assemblyman Thomson. I personally thank Ned for his willingness to take on the rigors of being a legislator as well as the demanding community and political commitments the job requires. Ned doesn’t need to do this. I wholeheartedly welcome him to our leadership team. Signatures appear to be falsified. Ciattarelli’s Political Director Certified Signature She Did Not Witness
The nominating petitions filed by the Monmouth County Freeholder candidates aligned with Jack Ciattarelli for Governor appear to have fraudulent signatures and to have been falsely certified, according to a challenge filed by Monmouth County Republican Chairman Shaun Golden and an ongoing investigation by MMM.
In a letter to Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon obtained by MMM, Golden said that a review of the petitions filed by Bernard Dowd and Susan Ellen Metz revealed “a number of irregularities.” Golden wrote that several signatures appear to be in the same handwriting for multiple people, several signers are not registered to vote and/or are registered Democrats. Democrat voters are not eligible to vote in Republican primaries nor endorse candidates for those primaries.Art Gallagher | Filed under: Monmouth County News, Monmouth GOP | Tags: 2017 GOP primary, Bernard Dowd, Chairman Shaun Golden, Chris Russell, Freeholder Director Lillian Burry, Jack Ciattarelli, Lt. Monmouth County GOP Chairman Shaun Golden told MMM that Middletown Mayor Gerry Scharfenberger has withdrawn as a candidate for Assembly in the 13th legislative district.
“Mayor Scharfenberger called and told me that he will not be filing a Letter of Intent,” Golden said. “Gerry is a competitor. I appreciate what it took for him to step down for the good of the Party. Gerry is a great mayor of one of the best run towns in the State of New Jersey. He has a great future ahead of him.”
Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon, the presumptive GOP nominee for State Senate in the 13th legislative district, also said he talked to Scharfenberger.Art Gallagher | Filed under: 13th Legislative District, Gerry Scharfenberger, Monmouth County News, Monmouth County Republican Committee, Monmouth GOP | Tags: 13th legislative district, Chairman Shaun Golden, Declan O'Scanlon, Gerry Scharfenberger, LD 13, Middletown, Monmouth County News | 26 Comments »
Fair Haven Councilman Bob Marchese told MMM that he will not submit his Letter of Intent to run for Assembly in the 13th legislative district and that he is throwing his support behind incumbent Assemblywoman Amy Handlin and Freeholder Serena DiMaso.
“We are fortunate that Amy Handlin has chosen to continue her career in the Assembly,” Marchese said of Handlin who, until this morning was in a race to replace Senator Joe Kyrillos with her district mate, Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon. “Declan was always my guy to replace Senator Kyrillos. The notion of losing two accomplished incumbents in the district, Kyrillos and either O’Scanlon or Handlin, in one election cycle was not ideal.Art Gallagher | Filed under: 13th Legislative District, 2017 Elections, Monmouth County, Monmouth County News, Monmouth County Republican Committee, Monmouth GOP | Tags: 2017 Legislative election, Amy Handlin, Bob Marchese, Chairman Shaun Golden, Declan O'Scanlon, Fair Haven Councilman Bob Marchese, Gerry Scharfenberger, Monmouth County News, Monmouth GOP, Serena DiMaso | 1 Comment »
InsiderNJ.com is reporting that an anonymous Monmouth County source has said that Freeholder Gary Rich will not be running for re-election in November.
“Chairman Shaun Golden sat down with Rich last night to tell him the organization is going in another direction and Rich opted not to fight,” the site reported their source said.
MMM has confirmed that Golden and Rich met yesterday, but it is not clear if Golden is pushing Rich out or if the two term Freeholder is leaving on his own volition. Rich has been giving mixed signals about his intentions; he has told people he is running, but he has not raised any money nor attended any political events recently. He has left at least two Freeholder meetings early since the first of the year. Neither Golden or Rich have responded messages seeking confirmation of their meeting’s content and tone.Art Gallagher | Filed under: 2017 Elections, Gary Rich, Monmouth County News, Monmouth County Republican Committee, Shaun Golden | Tags: Chairman Shaun Golden, Gary Rich, Lillian Burry, Monmouth County News, Monmouth GOP, Pat Impreveduto, Peter Doyle, Steve Massell, Sue Kiley | 12 Comments »

An impressive crowd of over 400 Monmouth Republican County Committee members gathered on Saturday morning to nominate their candidates for State Assembly, County Clerk and Freeholder. The size of the crowd was impressive not only because of the weather but because the results of the convention were a foregone conclusion as there were no challengers to the incumbent Assembly Members, Freeholder or Governor Chris Christie’s nominee for County Clerk.
Free of any competitive tensions, the mood at Colts Neck High School was upbeat, friendly and proud among the grassroots leaders who came out for Chairman Shaun Golden first nominating convention. Freeholder Deputy Director Serena DiMaso noted both the size and enthusiasm of the crowd. “This crowd is almost as large as last year’s convention when we had a competition for the freeholder nominations,” DiMaso said, “We’re in really great shape and that is a testament to Shaun’s leadership.”Art Gallagher | Filed under: Monmouth County Republican Committee, Monmouth GOP | Tags: Amy Handlin, Assembly Republcians, Caroline Casagrande, Chairman Shaun Golden, Chris Smith, Claire French, Congressman Chris Smith, County Clerk M.
