Investigation clears Asbury Park cops who arrested APP reporter during BLM protest

As police officers wrestled Gustavo Martinez Contreras to the ground while clearing out protesters in Asbury Park last month, newly released video shows he repeatedly tried to tell them “I’m a reporter” through his face mask.

Martinez Contreras, a reporter for the Asbury Park Press, was charged with failure to disperse — accusations that were later dropped.

David Applefield dies suddenly

David Applefield, 1956-2020. RIP

David Applefield, 64, of Red Bank died suddenly today, MMM has learned.

The candidate for Congress in the NJ-4 Democrat primary collapsed while exercising. He was pronounced at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank.

Murphy to require masks outdoors

Governor Phil Murphy announced on MSNBC’s Morning Joe this morning that he will sign an Executive Order today requiring that masks be worn outdoors in New Jersey, “if you can’t socially distance.”

Howell Police Department Gets $93K federal grant for Youth Engagement Program

The Howell Police Department has been awarded a $93,357 grant by the U.S. Department of Justice for its Youth Engagement Program , according to an announcement today by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey.

Major movie theater chains sue Murphy over coronavirus restrictions.

Atlantic Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands is for sale. Owner Fred Rast, who closed his theater prior to Murphy’s order in March, says it would take him a week or two to reopen once allowed.

For months, the marquees have been dark.

The release of long-awaited films like “Wonder Woman 1984″ and “Tenet” have been pushed back, while others are being released through streaming services.

But now with churches reopening and the numbers of those testing positive for COVID-19 declining in New Jersey, movie theaters say it’s showtime.
