Schmid has big lead in NJ-4 Dem Primary

Stephanie Schmid is the likely winner of the Democrat Primary in New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District

Stephanie Schmid appears to be cruising to an overwhelming victory in the Democrat primary for the nomination to challenge Congressman Chris Smith in New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District.

As of 10:50 p.m. on July 7, Schmid leads with 17,263 votes, 70%, to Christine Conforti’s 5,861 votes, 23.77%, according to Associated Press tabulations published by NJ.com. David Applefield has 6.23%, 1,536 votes.

NewJerseyGlobe has called the race for Schmid.

In this unprecedented vote-by-mail primary, votes cast through the US Postal System, at the polls or via Election Board drop boxes in the final days of the primary campaign through 8 p.m. on election day are not yet counted.

Ballots postmarked by July 7 and delivered to the Boards of Election by July 14 will be counted in the final tabulation.
