The Daily Callersaid that The Washington Post is confusing one prostitute for another in an attempt to debunk the allegations that Senator Robert Menendez paid for sex in the Dominican Republic last Easter.
DC said that the escort whose affidavit that WaPo obtained is not one of the women that the conservative site interviewed via webcam last year. WaPo also is dealing with a different Dominican lawyer than the one who assisted DC with the story.
New Jersey’s main stream media was slow to report the Menendez prostitution allegations, waiting almost three months from the first report until the story graced their pages. They were extraordinarily quick in reporting the Washington Post story claiming the prostitute faked it…the story was posted on NJ.com less than 1/2 hour after WaPo reported it.
Let’s see how they handle Daily Caller defending the story.
Statement from The Daily Caller:
The Washington Post falsely reported a story yesterday claiming our source had recanted her statement, without contacting The Daily Caller for comment before posting. In reality, the prostitute in the Post’s story does not appear to be one of the women we interviewed in 2012. Details provided by the prostitute identified as Ms. Santana in the Post story conflict with the taped interviews The Daily Caller posted on November 1, including the mention of a person whose name would not come to light for months afterward. In addition, Melanio Figueroa, the attorney for TheDC’s sources, has said the Post’s allegations are fabricated and that the affidavit is false. The Post would not provide TheDC with a copy of the affidavit, despite our request. We stand by our reporting.
U.S. Senator Bob Menendez was interviewed by ABC’s Martha Raddatz yesterday on the stations weekly Sunday morning talk show, ‘This Week.’
Raddatz, who you might remember as the moderator of the vice presidential debate between Vice President Joe Biden and Congressman Paul Ryan, asked Menendez about immigration reform Benghazi, former Senator Chuck Hagel’s nomination as Secretary of Defense and whether or not Senator Frank Lautenberg should give Newark Mayor Cory Booker a spanking.
This morning, The Star Ledger announced that they are laying off 34 people, including 10% of the newsroom.
In a poll published on January 8, Monmouth University’s Patrick Murray said that since 2005 newspapers as the primary source of news has decline from 48% to 27% among New Jerseyans. The shift has favored the interent where 28% now get their news, up from 6% in 2005. Television as a news source has also declined since 05, according to Murray. 48% got most of their news from TV in 05. Now 34%, still the highest percentage, are informed by television.
There is not much good news for the industry looking forward, according to Murray’s report. 45% of 18-34 year olds now look to the net as their primary news source, up from 33% in 2009.
Assembly Republican Conference Leader Dave Rible (30th District, Monmouth) announced yesterday that he will propose legislation that would prohibit the public release of the names and addresses of gun permit holders.
The Journal News, the suburban New York affiliate of the Asbury Park Press, published a map of and the names and addresses of gun permit holders from Westchester and Rockland Counties on Sunday, December 23. The Gannett owned publication obtained the information from the county clerks of Westchester and Rockland via New York’s Freedom of Information Law. Since the December 23 publication, the Putnam County Clerk has declined the Journal News’ Freedom of Information request for that county’s gun permit holders’ information.
A Westchester based blog, Talk of the Sound, responded by publishing the names and addresses of Jounral News employees, including those of the reporter who wrote the original story and Gannett’s CEO. A group of hackers broke into the company’s subscriber database. They are distributing the names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and passwords of the 10,000 subscribers of the paper’s website to anyone who asks.
The Journal News hired arm guards to secure its Rockland County headquarters. JN didn’t report that they hired arm guards. That stroy was broken by their competitor, The Rockland County Times.
Rible’s proposed bill would prevent that kind of nonsense from happening in New Jersey.
The world’s largest commercial baker, Grupo Bimbo (pronounced beem-bo) of Mexico, has an edge in acquiring Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Wonder Bread in the Hostess Brands liquidation, according to The Christian Science Monitor.
There are American companies looking at acquiring the Hostess properties, including Little Debbie baker McKees Foods. But Bimbo has an edge.
By producing Twinkies in Mexico, Bimbo could avoid paying the artificially high sugar prices that Hostess bore due to goverment tariffs that protect the Florida sugar industry. Bimbo also wouldn’t pay union benefits and wages, that the former Hostess employees will no longer be getting now that their employer is closing down. Bimbo could also distribute the products without the inefficient rules, like having different trucks for Twinkies and Wonder Bread, that unions insisted upon with Hostess.
Media cares about Twinkies,not about allegations against Menendez
In case you missed it while the lights were out, the right wing website, The Daily Caller reported allegations that Menendez used the private jet of a campaign contributor to fly to the Dominican Republic for a sex parties on multiple occasions, including a Easter weekend tryst where he didn’t pay his hostesses their agreed fee for a threesome. The left wing website, Gawker followed Daily Caller’s story with a report that Menendez hosts “a different attractive young lady” in his Washington, DC apartment almost every night from 11 p.m. until 3 a.m., keeping his downstairs neighbors up all night with his loud squeaking bed.
Of New Jersey media outlets, only MMM, InTheLobby and Save Jersey, have given Menendez’s bimbo/ethics violation issues any attention, even after state Senator Sam Thompson, as chairman of the Middlesex County GOP, filed an ethics complaint against Menendez. A senior statehouse reporter told MMM that New Jersey’s mainstream media is not covering the Menendez scandal because “nobody cares.” He said its a matter of priorities and that to expect more of this as fewer and fewer people report news and more and more news. The reporter said he didn’t think the lack of coverage was political.
Of course its political. Just as MMM, InTheLobby and Save Jersey paying attention to the issue is political. There is no such thing as an unbiased media. There’s only those who are honest about their biases and those who are pretending not to be biased.
However, the far left wing website, Gawker, followed Daily Caller’s story with a report from “someone who was unfortunate enough to live in the unit below Menendez’s Washington, DC apartment,” who said “he would bring home a different young, attractive lady almost every night, put on a little jazz, and f**k loudly until 3 a.m.”
Governor Chris Christie will be appearing on the Sunday morning talk shows of ABC, CBS and NBC this weekend.
Christie will be live with George Stephanopoulos in ABC’s “This Week”, 10am in New York and rebroadcast at 10:30 am in Philadelphia.
The interviews with CBS’s “Face the Nation” and NBC’s “Meet the Press” will be taped. Face the Nation airs at 10:30 am in both New York and Philadelphia. “Meet the Press” airs at 10:00 am in Atlantic City and at 10:30 am in New York and Philadelphia.
Following his live interview with Stephanopoulos, Christie is scheduled to attend the 25th Annual Governor’s Military Review at the New Jersey National Guard Training Center in Sea Girt at 11am.
Unless Stephanopoulos is broadcasting from Sea Girt, Christie will very likely be traveling from ABC’s studio in New York to Sea Girt via helicopter. Expect Democratic whining on Monday.
The mainstream media is gleefully parroting the results of a new Quinnipiac/CBS/NYT poll released yesterday afternoon showing Mitt Romney trailing Barack Obama in three key swing states (PA, OH and FL).
Trailing badly, Save Jerseyans.
But stop the presses! Unfortunately for Romney haters, this poll’s sample was absurdly unrealistic. In fact, an absolutely ideal, hugely historic Democrat turnout model could only exist in David Axelrod’s or Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s filthiest dreams. And we don’t need to go there, nor would we want to.
Do NOT believe the polls, Save Jerseyans! It’s a sick joke. I don’t know if it’s indicative of bias, stupidity, or a base desire to “create” big news and attract an audience. My suspicion is that they’re using 2008 or better-than 2008 turnout models to zap your enthusiasm.
