Monmouth Beach Man Pleads Guilty To Bank Robbery

Navesink branch of Investors Bank

Martin N. Racioppi, 52, of Monmouth Beach, pleaded guilty  in federal court in Trenton today to robbing the Navesink branch of Investor Saving Bank, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Racioppi entered the Navesink Investors branch on July 20, 2017 and demanded money from a teller.  He fled with approximately $1,600.  The FBI arrested him the following day in Eatontown.

This is Racioppi’s third bank robbery conviction.  He was released from federal prison on March 26, 2014 for his 2007 conviction in the robbery of a Red Bank Sovereign Bank branch, according the the Federal Bureau of Prisons.  He was on parole for a previous bank robbery conviction at the time of the Red Bank robbery, according to RedBankGreen. Doherty gets top job at Casino Reinvestment Development Authority

County Ready To Clear Snow Covered Roads

Monmouth County’s Department of Public Works and Engineering is ready for the expected overnight snowfall, Freeholder Director Tom Arnone announced.

“County road crews have been spreading liquid salt brine on County roads since Monday afternoon in advance of the threat of snow,” said Arnone, liaison to the County’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. “The County’s snow room will open this evening and we will monitor the storm’s progress. Our process helps us manage the personnel needed at the County’s ten highway districts and dispatch crews as needed.”

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning starting on 6PM on Tuesday for both Eastern and Western Monmouth County.  Mixed precipitation is expected Tuesday night followed by heavy snow fall on Wednesday.  Unnecessary travel on Wednesday afternoon and evening is strongly discouraged. Monmouth Freeholders Adopt Budget With Small Spending and Tax Increases

Curley votes no. Offers no cuts and defends rejecting $800K savings from State program. Continues to soak taxpayers for health insurance

The Monmouth County Board of Freeholders adopted a $448 million budget on Monday, March 19.  The final budget is  $1,450,000 (.03%) lower than originally proposed last month and $2,750,000 (.06%) higher than the County’s 2017 budget.

Property taxpayers will see the County’s portion of the tax bill raise by $1.50 to $25.00 for the year as the tax levy increases by $1,525,000 (.05%) over 2017.  The budget as originally proposed last month included a tax levy increase of $3,024,750.  The 2018 County tax levy is $304 million. Road improvements in Middletown could delay mid-day NJ Transit commuters this week

Residents of the north side of Middletown and Bayshore residents who commute mid-day on NJ Transit’s North Jersey Coast Line via the Middletown train station should leave home earlier than usual this week as Church Street (County Road 50) will be closed near Kings Highway for road construction and improvements, according to an announcement by Freeholder Director Tom Arnone.

Weather permitting, the plan is for Church St to be closed from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m., Monday March 19 through Friday, March 23.  Riders of 9 trains that leave Middletown starting with the 9:31 a.m. departure through the 4:06 p.m departure could be delayed. Read the rest of this entry »

State Police Announce DWI Checkpoints in Belmar and Neptune Saturday Night

Don’t count of the Luck of the Irish to get you home if you drive to your St. Patrick’ Day shenanigans on Saturday.

If you’re celebrating the Irish in Belmar or Neptune Township, the New Jersey State Police will have DWI checkpoints in the area, according to their announcement on facebook.

Do yourself a favor and use Uber or Lyft.

Is Curley’s Birthday a happy one for Monmouth County taxpayers? Employees?

Happy Birthday to disgraced Freeholder John P. Curley.

Now that he is 65 and eligible for Medicare, hopefully Curley will give the Monmouth County property taxpayers a break and get off the County’s self insured employee heath benefits program.

In his law suit against this fellow freeholders and all of the people of Monmouth County, Curley claims he is not an employee.  Yet, when it comes to getting health care, Curley claimed he was an employee of the County and not of his brother’s car dealership (which pays property taxes in Ocean County). Colts Neck Friends of the Library is holding its annual book sale today, March 16 and tomorrow, March 17.  The event made it to Greg’s List but is getting a special mention here because a special person asked for it.

If you’re a early morning reader of MMM and an avid reader, get ready to hustle over to the Colts Neck Library right now for the 9 am pre-sale which gives you an hour to get the best books.  Early admission is only a $5.00 donation.  Admission is free from 10am-5pm the rest of today.

Tomorrow, in addition to being St Patricks’s Day, is Bag of Books for $5.00 day with free admission from 9am-5pm.   Teachers get a bag of books for $5 today with school ID.
