Carton Withdraws From State Committee Race

Middletown GOP Chairman Peter Carton sent an email to his fellow municipal chairs and members of the Middletown Republican Committee this afternoon announcing that he is withdrawing as a candidate for State Committee.

Dear Republican Chairpersons of Monmouth County,

I hereby withdraw my name as a candidate to be the Republican State Committeeman for Monmouth County. I believe this is best for our party and County and for the successful election of Governor Christie, Kim, Serena, Tom, Shaun and all legislative candidates. Please let the members of your County Committee know of my decision.

I thank all who called or e mailed to offer support and to volunteer to call all county committee members in my election effort. I greatly appreciated them, had fun talking and corresponding with you and the other chairs and office holders with whom I have already spoken and look forward, as always, to working with all of you in this year’s election effort and after.

Sincerely yours,

pete carton

Carton’s withdrawal leaves Howell Republican Chairman John Costigan running unopposed for the party endorsement.

This is the politics of people working to scare someone out of the race. John Costigan was scared because he knew a better candidate was facing him. So, he pulled this crap with Kean and now people want to sing cumbaya and can’t we all just get along. They want these non contested things.

Costigan wasn’t owed anything. He should earn it at the ballot box.

Why is it that people are afraid to compete fairly on their own two feet. Why are they afraid of “choices” before the voters of the convention. I also see Bennett’s hand in this. I’d like to know Carton’s REAL reason for withdrawing.

@BULL CRAP why don’t you ask him?

Good f’n riddance carton and take your flunkie brian nelson with you.

Congratulations State Committeeman John Costigan – a true leader, a true uniter, someone who will fight for republican principals against the crazy left. State Committeeman Costigan with the support of our wonderful county chairman the honorable John Bennett will continue to keep this party Red and deliver a BIG plurality for the best damn governor in all of America, Governor Christopher J. Christie

GOOD RIDDANCE CARTON – KEEP YOUR OLD ASS IN MIDDLETOWN

    I intend to.

@Good Riddance, you get the DD Pottie Mouth award for the day. John Costigan a true leader? ROFLAO…

The only time Costigan leads is when there is something in it for himself. I can not tell you how many times he has blown people off for his own interests.

You folks say you are tired of “good old boys politics?” You have been played and rolled by the good old boys network.

Be careful what you wish for.

Wow, that’s really a unifying message, Good riddance!

GOOD RIDDANCE CARTON – KEEP YOUR OLD ASS IN MIDDLETOWN

Are you sure the ass in Howell is not older??

  6. @ @ Good Riddance said at 10:34 pm on March 14th, 2013:

Touche. You hit the nail on the head with Potty Mouth Good Riddance. And yes, I do believe that Costigan is older, NOT that age should have anything to do with.

What the comments illustrate though is the complete ignorance of Good Riddance.

  7. Monmouth Could Use A Lesson From Bergan County said at 7:16 am on March 15th, 2013:

Unlike Monmouth where the appearance of back room deals and the strong probability that one candidate (Kean) was recruited in an effort to pressure another candidate to back out to make sure Costigan got the State Committee seat, Bergen held a vote.

THAT’S RIGHT, people had a choice.

“Not at all,” Driscoll beamed. “This is the best thing. Our party votes in an open and transparent process.”

  8. If Bergen's so great, said at 4:01 pm on March 15th, 2013:

why do they keep beating each other up so badly that they’re losing elections where we shouldn’t be?

  9. Reasons? said at 4:06 pm on March 15th, 2013:

Perhaps the first batch of calls wasn’t yielding a sufficient amount of support? Withdrawals can be a way to save face, and not experience the agony of defeat- it could be as simple as that. Not everything has more diabolical undertones, as much as we seem to enjoy intrigue…

  10. TworiversBS said at 5:28 pm on March 15th, 2013:

Save face? Maybe Pete Carton decided beating Costigan wasn’t worth the reward of a ceremonial position vs causing further divisions. What would it accomplish? Anyone with a half of a brain knows that Carton would have won that election if he wanted it.

My suggestion for certain chairmen who are located on the two rivers would be for them to call Carton and learn how to actually win an election instead of blasting him for trying to help the state party.

  11. Truth be told said at 6:25 pm on March 15th, 2013:

Pete being the consummate gentleman and loyal friend to Bennett understands how the political game is played and graciously bowed out. Pete knew he would win but decided to put party over self-interest.

Everyone knows Costigan is goofy and a quack yet a hard worker for the party. Not many people want to run around, put signs out or get signatures for petitions. Every good dog gets a bone thrown to him or her and this is Costigan’s.

At the end of the day, Chairman Bennett has to keep the party together. Hopefully this symbolic gesture keeps Dr. Costigan tamed and from causing more problems around the county. Good luck to Christine and good luck to Costigan in his new role.

Now onto moving ahead and getting Republican’s elected in Monmouth County.

    Oh well now

The glass will be half empty and half full.

  13. Joe said at 12:49 pm on March 16th, 2013:

This is a sad day as Costigan is a boob and a joke. He has no relationship to the elected Republicans in his own town of Howell and was cut out of the last 2 campaigns totally. He can hand out flyers and put up signs. Other than that, he is clueless and deep down, an odd man. He’ll embarrass the organization and is not take seriously by anyone. Its a shame and a disgrace he will get this spot. Send in the clowns is all that comes to mind.

  14. I agree Joe said at 3:52 pm on March 16th, 2013:

    @joe

You said a mouthful of truth Joe and many people agree with you.

What a shame but at least we have professional representation by Hon. Christine Hanlon
