Joy that Governor Phil Murphy declared that New Jersey high schools could hold graduation ceremonies turned to anger for many high school students, their families and the elected officials who represent them this week, when they realized how impractical, cumbersome and expensive Murphy’s rules would make the ceremonies. Murphy effectively announced that graduations could take place and then issued guidelines that prevent them from happening.
The Bayshore Medical Center patient who was being monitored for Coronavirus has tested negative for the bug that has disrupted the world, the NJ Department of Health announced.
The announcement means that there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Jersey and that there are no others being monitored.
Monmouth County Deputy Freeholder Director Sue Kiley, the liaison to the Heath Department, announced the good news on her facebook page and asked that the news be shared.

The New Jersey Education Association has endorsed Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso, R-Holmdel for reelection to the General Assembly representing the 13th legislative district.
The teachers union issued a * endorsement for the second Assembly seat in the district, encouraging teachers to vote for either Freeholder Gerry Scharfenberger, R-Middletown or Barbara Singer, a Democrat and attorney who lives in Holmdel, to replace Amy Handlin the lower chamber. The Monmouth County Democrats held a mini-convention on Saturday in Long Branch to endorse their candidates for Assembly in districts 11,12,13 and 30 for the June 4 primary. The also endorsed primary candidates for Monmouth County Sheriff and and two Freeholder seats.
The Monmouth GOP held their annual nominating convention last Saturday, March 9 at iPlayAmerica in Freehold, where over 400 enthusiastic Republican County Committee members came out to endorse their County and Assembly candidates by acclamation. Read the rest of this entry »
Senator Declan O’Scanlon and Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso have introduced legislation that will increase certain animal abuse crimes to the second degree level. Convictions for second degree crimes carry penalties of five to 10 years imprisonment and fines of up to $150,000.
The legislation is named for River, a pitbull/mix that was rescued by a Good Samaritan, Jennifer Vaz of Highlands, who discovered the dog caged and left to drown on the banks of the Shrewbury River at Veterans Memorial Park last June.
The bill to raise the wage to $15 in increments and with exceptions by 2024 passed in committee in both the Assembly and Senate today. It is scheduled to be voted on in both chambers on Thursday.

Freeholder Gerry Scharfenberger will be running for office again in 2019. He will either seek his own full term on the Freeholder Board, having been elected to complete Assemblywoman Serena Dimaso’s term last month, or he will seek the Assembly seat being vacated by Assemblywoman Amy Handlin (R-Middletown).
Monmouth County Freeholder Deputy Director Lillian Burry said that she is one of the many people who have been abused by disgraced Freeholder John P. Curley. “Don’t lose sight of that Freeholder Curley has a history of abusing people, individually and collectively,” Burry said during a meeting of the Board last week.
Burry said that she was personally threatened by Freeholder Curley during a closed meeting in 2013. “With pointed fingers he said, ‘I will get you,’ I mean it was really unnerving and everybody sitting there could feel that way.”
Assemblyman Eric Houghtaling said the Democrat Neptune Township Committee candidates have always used police vehicles to promote themselves in parades and that he does not understand what the big deal is when MMM asked him to comment about why he was using taxpayers’equipment for political purposes as depicted the attached photo.
