Freeholder Director Lillian Burry Encourages Monmouth County Residents To Support Hurricane Harvey Victims

Monmouth County Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry issued the following statement today encouraging residents of Monmouth County to support the residents of Texas and Louisiana who are suffering from the impact of Hurricane Harvey:

“On behalf of Board of Chosen Freeholders, I offer our heartfelt sympathies to the residents of Houston and the numerous surrounding communities who are suffering in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

Just five short years ago, Superstorm Sandy ravaged our beautiful Monmouth County shoreline, thrusting our residents into a battle against Mother Nature and a complex and burdensome Federal aid and flood insurance system. Former Middletown Police Chief Joseph M. McCarthy, 92, passed away on Monday.  McCarthy led the Middletown PD from 1960 until his retirement in 1990.

Monmouth Dems Protest Hot Mess Chicken Emoji, Remain Silent On Hateful Rhetoric Of Their Supporters

Monmouth County Democrats, led by former freeholder candidate Sue Fulton, Middletown committeewoman candidate Tricia Maguire, Red Bank Councilman Ed Zipprich and Councilwoman Kathy Horgan took the the streets of Red Bank on Saturday to protest Ocean Township Deputy Mayor Rob Acerra’s alleged use of a hot mess chicken emoji on the campaign facebook page of LD 11 Assembly Members Eric Houghtaling and Joann Downey.

Acerra is one of the Republicans running against Houghtaling and Downey, along with Red Bank Councilman Michael Whelan. The protest took place outside Senator Jennifer Beck’s legislative office on Monmouth Street.

Houghtaling and Downey, who would rather their reelection campaign be about facebook emojis than their records in the Assembly as special interest puppets, both shared photos of the protesters holding handmade signs and rubber chickens on their personal facebook pages.

Hazlet Man On Megan’s List Charged With Sexual Assault, Photographing, 14 Year Old Girl

A registered sex offender from Hazlet was arrested on Friday, August 25, and charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl over multiple months and photographing her on at least one occasion, announced Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

Michael J. Gwiazdowski, 51, of 71 Bayshore Mobile Manor, faces two counts of second degree Sexual Assault, one count of fourth degree Violating Community Supervision for Life, one count of third degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child by engaging in sexual conduct, one count of first degree Causing or Permitting a Child to Engage in Child Pornography, and one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Gwiazdowski is in the custody of the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold, pending a detention hearing scheduled for Wednesday August 30 before Judge Vincent Falcetano, J.S.C. Read the rest of this entry »

Thomson Sworn In As Assemblyman

Ned Thomson was took the Oath of Office and officially became a member of the New Jersey General Assembly yesterday during a ceremony at the State House in Trenton.

Speaker Vincent Prieto administered the Oath to the former Wall Township mayor as his wife Sandi held the bible.  The Thomson’s son Christian, daughter-in-law Kimbery and grandchildren Bella and Marcelo participated in the ceremony as witnesses along with Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick.
