Governor Chris Christie has consistently thumbed his nose at New Jersey Republicans
Governor Chris Christie continued the transition of the Executive Branch of New Jersey’s State Government back to the Democratic Party today with his announcement that Charles A. Richman will become Acting Commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs on Friday when current Commissioner, Richard Constable, leaves government service after 13 years. Christie’s announcement said that Richman will be formally nominated to succeed Constable in the Commissioner’s post.
Richman, a career New Jersey bureaucrat with 40 years experience, served in the cabinets of Governor Brendan Byrne and Governor Richard Codey, on a acting basis.
Throughout his second term as Governor, Christie has appointed high profile Democrats to fill cabinet level and other important goverment positions when vacancies have occurred.

Jim McGreevey is Governor Christie’s Ethical Compass?

In the summer of 2004, U.S. Attorney Chris Christie had Governor Jim McGreevey on the ropes. McGreevey was “State Official #1,” an unindicted co-conspirator in a pay for play scheme that nabbed Democratic fund-raiser David D’Amiano. A few weeks later McGreevey was resigning, purportedly because he was a “Gay American” who gave his boyfriend an important homeland security job that he wasn’t qualified to perform.
Yesterday, a decade later, Governor Christie is hanging his hat, and his orange sweater, on a McGreevey Executive Order that exempts the Governor from New Jersey’s ethics laws against accepting gifts.
Chris Christie marched into Trenton promising to turn the place upside down. Five years later McGreevey is Christie’s ethical compass. Not the man McGreevey has become over the last 10 years. Christie’s ethical compass is the man he investigated and probably could have indicted and convicted. To paraphrase Christie on the stump for Mitt Romney two years ago, something got turned upside down in Trenton, but it wasn’t the culture of government that Christie promised he would impact and overturn.
About the best thing we can say about Christie accepting gifts of travel on private jets and seats in owner’s boxes at NFL games is at least it was family friendly entertainment with the cameras running, unlike the alleged entertainment U.S. Senator Bob Menendez flew off to on a friend’s private jet.

In their editorial posted last evening, the Asbury Park Press Editorial Board The Neptune Nudniks lecture New York City voters on character and morality.
As if they are an authority on character and morality and have readers from New York! Maybe they are hoping some bennies here for the weekend will read their paper instead of Greg’s List.
The Nudnik’s homily bemoans the fact that former Congressman Anthony Weiner and former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer are doing very well in the polls in their campaigns for municipal office in New York.

Former Governor Jim McGreevey is back in government service, according to a report in The Jersey Journal.
Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop appointed McGreevey to the position of Executive Director of the Jersey City Employment and Training Commission. The commission is apparently a new venture of Fulop’s who made job creation and the establishment of a re-entry program for ex-offenders a major plank of his recent election campaign. There is no information about the commission on the city’s website.
Fulop’s spokesperson, Jennifer Morrill, did not know what McGreevey’s salary will be when we asked her. She promised to get back to us with that information and whether or not the job is pensionable.
UPDATED: Morrill said that McGreevey’s salary is $110,000. The commission is an independent authority, which is why there is no information about it on Jersey City’s website.

Spitzer to join Weiner in making a come back
The New York Times is reporting that former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer is reentering the political arena with a run for the office of New York City Comptroller. Spitzer resigned the governorship five years ago amid a prostitution scandal involving Ashley Dupree of Monmouth County.
Former Congressman Anthony Weiner, who was forced to resign after tweeting nude and nearly nude pictures of himself to young women, and lying about it, is also making a political comeback. Weiner is running in the New York City Democratic Primary for Mayor.
Spitzer and Weiner are hoping that New York voters are as forgiving as South Carolina voters when it comes to personal indiscretions. Former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford’s political career appeared to be over in 2011 after he left his state to be with his Argentinian mistress. Sanford was elected to Congress in May.
Jim McGreevey has to be tempted.
