Christie: GOP Needs To Put Up Or Shut Up If It Wins Congress

Appearing on CNBC’s Squawk Box this morning, Governor Chris Christie said the GOP needs to get real about reducing the size of government should they take over congress.

TRANSCRIPT OF YOUTUBE VIDEO

CARL QUINTANILLA:  Is the model of governing that you have brought to New Jersey successfully, can you replicate that on a federal level? When you have to answer constituencies in San Francisco and Seattle and Chicago? It’s not all in the garden state.

GOVERNOR CHRISTIE:  Listen, it’s much more difficult. I mean, the bigger government gets the more difficult it is to change it and to manage it and so it’s not easy. It won’t be easy for anybody. It wouldn’t be easy for President Obama if he wanted to change it to make it smaller. It’s always easy for government to get bigger because you’re saying yes to somebody. It’s hard to say no but we have to and so it will be harder on the federal level. You’re right, Carl. There’s no question. But I saw Eric Cantor here before. They now — Republicans, my party, if we win the Congress we got to put up or shut up. This is it, we failed the last time. We went away from our principles and we paid for it. And now the price is even higher if we don’t.

Fair Haven Mayor Mike Halfacre told MMM that the news came as a profound shock early this morning when he was informed of the tragedy by Fair Haven Police Chief  Darryl Breckinridge.

Halfacre said there were absolutely no signs of Lehnert being troubled or depressed.

Lehnert leaves behind his wife and two young daughters.   He recently graduated from law school, took the bar exam this summer and was expected to start practicing law soon.

Pallone’s Fish Tales

By Art Gallagher

It’s official, The Asbury Park Press is in the tank for Frank Pallone.

Phoney Pallone had a press conference in Keyport today where he announced that he is proposing the $400 million Coastal Jobs Creation Act aimed at boosting the state’s commercial and recreational fishing industries mainly by keeping closer tabs on fishing stocks through a research partnership with Rutgers University.

As someone commented on the APP site, $400 million to count fish?  I know something about counting fish  This bill is a lot of bunker.

This legislation will never become law and Phoney Pallone knows it.  Today’s press conference was to give the APP an opportunity to write a Pallone friendly story.

Here’s a list of all the bills that Pallone has sponored in the 111th Congress (the one that is currently in session.)  There are 25 bills on the list.  One became law, one passed the House and went nowhere from there, one was reported by committee and now Nancy Pelosi has to decide what she needs from Pallone in order to post it.   The other 22 bills were introduced and referred to committee.   That’s it.

This bill is one of the 22 that is buried in committee.  Pallone introduced it on March 23.   The House Natural Resources Committee, which Pallone sits on with Rush Holt,  held a hearing on the bill on July 27.  No further action has been taken.

Why is this news?  Nothing happened regarding this bill today, other than Frank Pallone making a phoney campaign appearance.

It took me all of two minutes to find this information about the bill.  I wonder if  APP reporter Jim McConville bothered to research the bill before writing his story.

I wonder why I wasn’t invited to the press conference.  Maybe because I would have  asked a question like this,

” Congressman, you introduced this legislation back in March of this year.  The House Natural Resources Committee, which both you and Rush Holt are members of, held a hearing on this bill on July 27 and no further action has been taken.  Why are you holding a press conference about the bill today?”

That’s a fair question.  Right?

Or maybe I would have asked this:

“Congressman, you introduced this legislation in March. Your committee held a hearing on it in July.  The purpose of the bill is To promote coastal jobs creation, promote sustainable fisheries and fishing communities, revitalize waterfronts, and for other purposes.

Why didn’t you use your considerable influence as a senior member of congress to get this bill passed so that funds would be  available to save the Baykeepers Oyster Restoration Program here in Keyport.

Back in August, Pallone told the NY Post’s Ken Moran that this bill (which will never become law) would save fishermen a $15-$25 license fee that is scheduled to go into effect next year.   I might have asked Pallone why the government is going to borrow $400 million to count fish when fisherman can fund the registry with their licenses, if I had been invited to the press conference today.

If McConville asked any questions like these, he didn’t write about it in his story.  Maybe tomorrow in the print edition.

More likely, the APP is falling for Pallone’s fish tales, hook, line and sinker.

61% Favor Repeal of Health Care Law. Pallone Doesn’t Care

61% of likely voters favor repealing  Obama Pallone Care, including 50% who strongly favor a repeal, according to a poll released by Rasmusssen  this morning.

Just as he said at his town hall meetings last August, Frank Pallone doesn’t care what his constituents think.  He knows better.  Just ask him.

Last Friday at the MODC candidates lucheon, Pallone spoke favorably about his health care bill, calling it one of the two accomplishments of the current congress.

Rush Holt and Nazi Collaboration

By Abram N. Spangel

For someone who demonizes those of his constituents who work in the financial services industry, Rush Holt sure doesn’t have any qualms about accepting campaign contributions from financial kingpins. Holt effectively hooked up his fire hose on Wall Street and has been enjoying the gushing torrents of investment banking, venture capital and hedge fund money flowing into his campaign coffers. Holt received over $30,000 from Goldman Sachs. Holt recently secured funding from other Wall Street titans such as Prudential Financial, Oppenheimer Funds, the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association and MetLife.

When it comes to accepting money from hedge fund managers, Holt entered into an unshakeable union with his intellectual soul mate, billionaire George Soros. In his current bid for re-election, among the campaign contributions Holt received from Soros organizations are $10,000 from the New Democratic Coalition PAC and $1,000 from J-Street.

According to the latest numbers from Per Trac Financial Solutions, there were 12,200 hedge funds in 2009. Making a very conservative assumption that there are an average of five principals or senior directors per hedge fund would indicate that there are at least 60,000 hedge fund players in a position to contribute funds to political campaigns.

Holt clearly hooked up with the world’s most detestable hedge fund manager. To wit:

·         Soros provided $15 million for the Death in America Project, which supports euthanasia and contributed $250,000 to retain Oregon’s assisted suicide law. Soros’ position on euthanasia parallels Holt’s position on infanticide.

·         About the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Soros wrote, “Hijacking fully fueled airliners and using them as suicide bombs was an audacious idea, and its execution could not have been more spectacular.”

·         Soros is a self-confessed Nazi collaborator. In an interview with Steve Kroft from 60 Minutes (see below), Soros admitted that he collaborated with Nazis to confiscate property from his Jewish brethren in his native Hungary. He said, “my character was made in 1944. That year (1944) was the best year of my life.” (In fairness to Soros, perhaps one had to do what one had to do to survive under Nazi domination. However, what is detestable about Soros’ crooning comments about his Nazi collaboration is that he shows no remorse. Despite Soros being one of the world’s wealthiest men, he can not find a few words of compassion–let alone a few forints–for those poor souls that he wronged. Not even some 66 years after the fact.)

Soros has deployed hundreds of millions of dollars to relentlessly articulate his views on subjects such as those above for many years. What are the odds that Rush Holt would unknowingly align with the only hedge fund manager that is a proud Nazi collaborator? According to Per Trac Financial Solutions, about 1 in 60,000, or 0.0017%.

Rush Holt and the trough feeders that support him endlessly proclaim that Holt has infinite intelligence about every issue in the universe. However, when it comes to inconvenient truths right under his nose, Holt claims to have no knowledge. Highly unlikely!

Addendum: Here is George Soros’ interview with Steve Kroft.

Steve Kroft: And you watched lots of people get shipped off to the death camps.

George Soros: Right. I was 14 years old. And I would say that that’s when my character was made…

Steve Kroft: …My understanding is that you went out with this protector of yours who swore that you were his adopted godson.

George Soros: Yes. Yes.

Steve Kroft: Went out, in fact, and helped in the confiscation of property from the Jews.

George Soros: Yes. That’s right. Yes.

Steve Kroft: I mean, that sounds like an experience that would send lots of people to the psychiatric couch for many, many years. Was it difficult?

George Soros: Not-not at all. Not at all. Maybe as a child you don’t – you don’t see the connection. But it created no-no problem at all.

Steve Kroft: No feeling of guilt?

George Soros: No.

Abram N. Spangel is a pseudonym for a Mercer County business person

The real Abarm Nathaniel Spanel, 1901-1985, was a U.S. industrialist, inventor and philanthropist. Spanel was the founder of one of the biggest corset and brassiere companies in the U.S. and an inventor who held more than 2,000 patents. He was probably best known, however, for the editorials he wrote as paid advertisements in scores of newspapers all over the country for more than 40 years. In them, he offered his opinions on world affairs, with particular emphasis on matters affecting the State of Israel, whose cause he championed.

Spanel owned Drumthwacket from 1941 through 1966 when he sold it to the State of New Jersey with the intent that it be used as the official residence of the Governor.

Anna Little Is “On The Radar”

NRCC Announces New ‘On the Radar’ and ‘Contender’ Candidates
23 Republican Candidates Take Steps Toward ‘Young Gun’ Status
Washington- The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) today announced its newest round of ‘On the Radar’ and ‘Contender’ candidates. By reaching the first and second step of the three-step ‘Young Guns’ program, these Republican candidates have reached the fundamental benchmarks to place them on the road to victory. Now, these 23 candidates are ready to take on the Democrat establishment and return fiscal sanity to Washington.

“These candidates have worked hard to meet the benchmarks that have been laid out before them and are determined to hold Washington Democrats accountable this November,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). “Middle-class families are tired of watching the Democrat majority spend this country deeper into recession while they have been forced to tighten their belts. With Americans desperate for change, these 23 candidates are determined to reign in reckless spending, cut taxes and return the economy back to a state of vitality.”

Originally founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI) as a member-driven organization, the Young Guns program has become an official NRCC effort dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. Reps. Cantor, McCarthy and Ryan remain actively involved in the Young Guns program, working together to recruit and prime conservative leaders for victory.

After reaching the first and second step of the three-step program, these ‘On the Radar’ and ‘Contender’ candidates now face a new set of rigorous benchmarks that will continue to help them build competitive, effective and winning campaigns.

Scott’s “Trail Mix” for September 20

sipprelle-large-banner-paid-for3

My endorsement by Trenton City Council President George Muschal was one of the highlights of a very, very good week for Team Sipprelle. George said I impressed him with “my heart.” My commitment to bring a new sense of empowerment to our nation’s most economically distressed citizens is a central plank of my campaign. It is time to introduce democracy to a city which has been ignored by Republicans and taken for granted by Democrats.

Tammy’s Rule

At a recent meeting, an undecided voter was listening to me intently, but saying nothing. At the end of my Q&A, I asked her what she thought. She reflected for a moment, and then repeated a comment I have heard literally hundreds of times, “It sounds really good, you sound committed, but I am afraid that once you get there you will become just like all the others, detached from our issues and focused on your re-election.” So, I coined Tammy’s Rule, so named for my questioner: Be courageous, be independent, and do not ever forget the people who sent you there. My personal term limits pledge will do wonders, as well, to keep me focused and give me a sense of urgency. You won’t ever see Scott Sipprelle wheeled in and out of the Capitol building!

I Reject Mr. Holt’s Politics of Division

This will likely become a recurring entry in my weekly updates. My opponent has added a new weapon of cynical political deception to his arsenal.  Volunteers at his campaign office are now being asked to copy and sign staff-authored talking points onto campaign postcards, which are then mailed to voters. The new “Falsehood of the Week” is that Scott Sipprelle favors denying healthcare to people with pre-existing conditions. What can you say about someone who will say or do anything to cling to political office? We are better than that.

Our Weapons Are Stronger

Last week I met a woman with a powerful gaze emanating from her deep brown eyes. She took me by the hand and said, “You have to win this election. You have to win it for our young people.” I replied quickly and politely, “Yes, that is what we intend to do,” and proceeded to move on, before realizing that the woman had not released her grip. She pulled my face back to hers and repeated with passion in her voice, “No, I mean you really have to do this.” I have been so moved by the notes and personal letters from people who tell me that they have never before staked out a lawn sign or mailed in a political donation. I will not let these people-or youdown.

Events

We have a wonderful series of events planned for the weeks ahead; I hope you can attend one of these gatherings:

September 24:

Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno will join me at a cocktail reception fundraiser in Rumson to support our campaign. RSVP by emailing:

[email protected], or by calling (609) 902-2038.

October 1:

Silicon Valley entrepreneur, former CA Congressman, and current Princeton University professor Ed Zschau will join me for a breakfast fundraiser at my home in Princeton to discuss entrepreneurship, capitalism, and the proper role of government ($250). RSVP to [email protected] and mail in this form: Reply/RSVP Card

October 3:

The Republican Jewish Coalition will host, “A Night of Policy and Politics,” with Jennifer Rubin of Commentary Magazine and yours truly. More details here: Republican Jewish Coalition Event

Like Levy’s Rye Bread used to say:

“You don’t have to be Jewish” (to attend).

Thank you for your continued demonstration of passion and purpose in our campaign for America’s future.

Breaking News: Middletown Victim Of Cyber Attack

breaking-news_previewBy Art Gallagher

An international crime syndicate with ties to the Ukraine hacked into Middletown Township’s computer system early this month and withdrew over $370,000 from the township’s bank accounts, according to confidential sources within the township.  All but $13,000 of the stolen funds have been recovered.

“Who told you?” was Deputy Mayor Tony Fiore’s confirmation that the cyber attack occurred, when asked about it by MoreMonmouthMusings.

The theft was discovered by finance department personnel on September 9. The Middletown Township Police Department was able to get all but the $13,000 that had already been withdrawn from the thieves accounts frozen and returned to the township.

Mayor Gerry Scharfenberger confirmed that the majority of funds had been recovered and said there were ongoing efforts to recover the missing $13,000.  Scharfenberger also said that he was told that the federal government was already investigating similar incidents at other municipalities.

Fiore said that the method of the attack was new and blocks for such attacks had not yet been developed.  He said that social networking sites were being restricted from the township’s computers are a precaution against future attacks.

Special Agent Bryan L. Travers of the FBI declined to comment on a ongoing investigation or to divulge what other municipalities or businesses have be victimised.

Travers said the these types of cyber attacks usually occur on holiday weekends and advised that finance managers should conduct pending business before a holiday and shut their systems down until returning to work.

NEPTUNE REPUBLICANS SUGGEST POTENTIAL REVENUE STREAM

Democrats Push it Aside In Favor Of A Tax On The Good Guys

By Jim Granelli

At the September 13th Township Committee meeting, when presented with an idea that could bring a large revenue stream to Neptune Township, the 5 & 0 Democrat Monopoly seemed dismissive of a potentially good idea to bring in revenue for Neptune, while rushing head long into a Hotel Tax that would only hurt tourism.

Taking part in a pilot program by the N.J. State Police in order to increase traffic safety, the Boro of Glassboro, N.J.; along with other towns initiated the use of a traffic cameras to ticket vehicles running red lights or not stopping on red when making a right turn.

Glassboro realized a gross revenue of $35,000 in the first month, increasing to $110,000 in the most recently reported month of August with the first four months brought a net revenue $230,000 to Glassboro’s coffers. Extrapolating that on a year round basis, that could mean close to a million dollars in new revenue for Neptune Township.

According to Charles Callari, New Jersey regional business development director at American Traffic Solutions, “there’s no out-of-pocket expenses for the municipality or no up-front costs.”

When compared to the Neptune Democrat’s vague estimates of only $200,000 to $500,000 in revenue from a hotel tax that would impact tourism & Township business owners, Neptune’s Republicans feel that the brakes should be put on a hotel tax while this other potential revenue stream is investigated and possibly initiated in Neptune.

Warren Lapp, the Neptune Township Republican Township Committee Candidate commented, that “while the idea needs to be fully explored and questions answered; before we rush headlong into a Hotel Tax, maybe we should be checking out a revenue producer like this. Routes 33, 35 & 66 pass thru Neptune Township, along with thousands of vehicles. Instead of taxing those good people who want to spend money, maybe we should raise money from those that break our laws.

After all, it’s both a safety and revenue issue. We’ve also found out that many more towns in N.J. that are considering the use of red light cameras.

So, since the Democrats always seem to be in favor of what other towns have, like when Mayor Jahn talks about 280 or so towns having a hotel tax, here’s something other towns have, something that doesn’t punish tourists for spending money and hurt businesses that need increased income during a recession. Quite honestly, I don’t know why Randy Bishop & Eric Hougtaling, the Democrat Candidates don’t see this.

Why do we always have to tax our way out of a problem?” Lapp commented.
