WASHINGTON, DC—Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) joined Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Presidential Advisor Ivanka Trump, and U.S. anti-trafficking ambassador John Richmond today at the State Department for the release of the 20th annual “Trafficking in Persons” or TIP Report mandated by Smith’s groundbreaking human trafficking law enacted in 2000.

Washington (AFP) – The United States on Thursday warned that instability sparked by the global coronavirus pandemic has opened the door to increased human trafficking.
Washington also added Afghanistan, Algeria, Lesotho and Nicaragua to its blacklist on human trafficking in its annual report on the illegal practice.

Christine Marie Conforti, one of three Democrats competing in the primary to take on Congressman Chris Smith in the 4th Congressional District, blasted Stephanie Schmid, the establishment choice of the Monmouth and Ocean County Democrat organizations, for declining to participate in a debate hosted by The Asbury Park Press on facebook Wednesday.
Conforti said Schmid could not be trusted to be a leader in moments of crisis and thanked her other opponent, David Applefield, for modeling courage and integrity with her:
If there’s an indication of demand for the state Motor Vehicle Commission’s agencies to reopen, it might be the people who showed up at the Bakers Basin agency in Lawrence Township on Tuesday, looking for answers, even though it won’t open for another six days.
Opening day for agencies is June 29, and it will only be for limited transactions that can’t be done online. MVC officials have to process a three-month backlog of these transactions and make sure customers follow the new rules to prevent spread of the coronavirus.

Travelers coming to New Jersey from states where coronavirus cases are spiking must quarantine for 14 days, according to a new travel advisory announced by Gov. Phil Murphy on Wednesday.
The announcement was made along with the governors of New York and Connecticut, which all agreed to the restriction. The travel advisory takes effect at midnight Wednesday.
