Interview with Hazlet Mayor Sue Kiley Part 2

In the second part of my interview with Hazlet Mayor Sue Kiley, she talks about 1) what she wanted to accomplish in her first term on the Township Committee, 2) what she did accomplish, and what she hopes to accomplish if Hazlet voters give her another three years. Read the rest of this entry »

We Need a Governor — from Monmouth Beach

By Greg Kelly

I recently launched a website about my native town of Monmouth Beach and it just so happens that a resident of that great community is running for Governor of New Jersey, Kim Guadagno.

So I thought I’d offer some local perspective on a state concern. I’m backing Kim on November 7 and it’s an easy vote for me.

I’ve known Kim since she first ran for political office in Monmouth Beach back 12 years ago. As I’ve followed her career, I’ve learned that Kim already has to be exceptional just to survive. She’s a Republican from New Jersey (a state that twice voted against Abraham Lincoln), is married to a seasoned judge (husband Mike recently retired from the NJ Superior Court) and is mother to three smart kids (some went to school with my children for a while).

In light of the recent vile and mean-spirited Star-Ledger editorial endorsement of Phil Murphy in the governor’s race, I’d like to offer the main reasons why Kim gets my vote: Read the rest of this entry »

Refs walk off in protest after Monroe High School players kneel during anthem at football game vs. Colts Neck High

Two high school football officials walked off the field in protest Friday night after players from Monroe High School in Somerset County knelt during the national anthem before the team’s game against visiting Colts Neck. The officials, Ernie Lunardelli, 54, and his son, Anthony Lunardelli, 27, stood for the anthem and then abruptly left the field… Read the rest of this entry »

Opinion: Elect Rob Acerra and Michael Whelan to Assembly in the 11th District

By Joe Hadden

These days it seems that in order to oppose someone politically, it is necessary to “ist” them. If they disagree with you they must be a fascist, communist, racist, sexist, socialist, etc. I don’t need to do that to voice my opposition to Assembly members Eric Houghtaling and Joann Downey. Demonizing them is not necessary.

Mr. Houghtaling and Ms. Downey are not evil, they’re just incompetent as elected representatives. They voted yes on a budget that took state aid away from many school districts in LD11, including Ocean Township. During the LD11 debate, Mr. Houghtaling was asked if New Jersey should become a Sanctuary State since his party’s candidate for Governor said it should. Mr. Houghtaling responded that he didn’t have an opinion on the issue. I dare say he might be the only person in New Jersey who doesn’t. He still hasn’t come up with an answer. Middletown Deputy Mayor Stephanie Murray to be Honored at NJ League of Municipalities Annual Conference

Stephanie Murray

Stephanie Murray, the Deputy Mayor of Middletown, will be honored by the New Jersey State League of Municipalities’ Women in Municipal Government Committee in Atlantic City during the League’s annual convention on November 15th.

Murray was selected as an award recipient because of her many achievements since beginning her public service in Middletown Township in 2012. When Superstorm Sandy devastated the community five years ago, Murray worked tirelessly to help those affected and created the Volunteer Corps that managed volunteer services during the Township’s recovery process. In addition to her leadership role during Sandy, Murray has made it a priority to bring our Township’s history to the forefront. In 2014, she served as Chairwoman of Middletown 350, a yearlong celebration of the Township’s founding in 1664. She also reinstituted the Historic Preservation Commission, served on the Zoning Board of Adjustment, and is a member of the Middletown Cultural and Arts Council. Read the rest of this entry »

Vincent Solomeno’s Glass House…

…and his new worst nightmare…

By Art Gallagher

People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones ~ Old English Proverb

In his desperate attempt to finally win an election, Vincent Solomeno, the unemployed* serial candidate from Hazlet who is challenging Mayor Sue Kiley’s reelection to the Township Committee, has been claiming that Kiley and the Republican majority are incompetent for various reasons, including the fact that sewer bills went out late earlier this year.

Solomeno is not nearly as competent as he makes himself out to be.

He has a long history of not mailing his own sewer bill correctly and on time.  There is currently a lien from a sewer bill recorded on his house for a late sewer bill, dating back to 2009. Read the rest of this entry »

Interview with Hazlet Mayor Sue Kiley

Hazlet Mayor Sue Kiley is engaged in a tough race for reelection to the Township Committee.

Her opponent, Vincent Solomeno is up to his old tricks.  Last year when he was a candidate for Monmouth County Surrogate, Solomeno depicted Rosemarie Peters as incompetent, disengaged and indifferent to the concerns of seniors, orphans and grieving families.  He’s using the same playbook this year as he is using social media and mail to try to convince Hazlet voters that Kiley is corrupt and incompetent.
