Four inmates at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution got their high school diplomas today through an online program administered by the Monmouth-Ocean Educational Services Commission, according to a press release from Sheriff Shaun Golden.
“I am gratified by the commitment made by today’s graduates to use their time at MCCI in a constructive manner that will benefit them for the rest of their lives,” said Sheriff Golden. “The wrong choices that brought the graduates to MCCI have provided these individuals the opportunity to make right choices about furthering their education and changing their lives.” Read the rest of this entry »

4,000 bags of heroin, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, marijuana, drug distribution paraphernalia, $8,000 in cash,a .22 caliber handgun, 9mm replica handgun and several knives were seized on Thursday when the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office’s Gang Bureau and the Long Branch Police Street Crimes Unit arrested Robert Strohlin, 46, of 177 West End Ave, and his roommate Syr Berry, 47, according to Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
Strohlin and Berry’s arrests was part of a months-long investigation into illegal drug distribution in Long Branch.

Anthony “Nygee” Stevenson, a 48 year old Long Branch restaurateur , was sentenced to 50 years in state prison today by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge John T. Mullaney, Jr, according to a statement by Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christoper J. Gramiccioni.
Stevenson was convicted by a Monmouth County Jury in May on 91 counts of selling drugs and guns out of his Long Branch restaurant, Christabell’s American Soul Food Restaurant. He has been incarcerated at the Monmouth County Correction Insitution since his August 1, 2011 arrest, according to the Sheriff’s Office website. He will be eligible for parole in 26 years.

A “robust and aggressive” investigation into the hit and run death of 15 year old Marissa Procopio is ongoing. It is possible that additional charges…assault by auto or vehicular homicide…could be filed against Toni Ann Marletta, said Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni in an interview with MoreMonmouthMusings last week.
Marletta has been incarcerated at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution since July 15 after being charged with Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident, Failing to Report a Motor Vehicle Accident, No Insurance, Unsafe Tires and Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident July 6th incident on Route 36 in the Leonardo section of Middletown Township which resulted in the death of Procopio. Her bail is $150,000 with no 10% option.
The Middletown Police Department identified Marletta as the driver of the vehicle that struck Procopio and fled the scene within hours of the incident.

Defendant is free on $125K bail
Gregory Rittman, 50, of Howell Township, was Indicted by a Monmouth County Grand Jury this week on 12 counts of Sexual Assault, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Lewdness, according to a statement by Acting Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
Rittman was arrested on Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, after authorities received a report from an employee at a McDonald’s that described lewd behavior witnessed by an 8-year-old juvenile, near the sink in the men’s bathroom of the restaurant. Rittman was charged with one count each of second degree Sexual Assault, third degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, fourth degree Lewdness and a disorderly persons charge of Harassment. He was released after posting $73,000 bail with no 10-percent option, as set by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Teresa A. Kondrup-Coyle, J.S.C.

Johan J. Murrieta, 20, of the 300 block of 8th Avenue in Asbury Park, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with 4 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, according to a statement by Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
A series of CyberTips received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children indicating child pornography was being distributed electronically lead to an investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force which revealed that on three separate days, images of child pornography were distributed using three different email accounts – all the accounts were accessed by an individual using an IP address associated with Murrieta’s home.

Albert DeCresci
Albert DeCresci, 86, a resident of the Seabrook retirement community in Tinton Falls and formerly of Rumson, was charged with Second Degree Sexual Assault and Third Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child after being caught in the act of sexually assaulting a 13 year old boy, according to a statement by Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
DeCresci was arrested in a Seabrook dining room by the Tinton Falls Police Department on June 5, 2015. He is in custody of the Monmouth County Correctional Institution where he is being held on $250,000 bail with no 10% option as set by Judge Honora O’Brien Kilgallen, J.S.C. O’Brien Kilgallen ordered that DeCresci have no contact with the alleged victim in the event that he makes bail.
Investigators are urging any additional victims to come forward by contacting Detective Delisa Brazile, of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-620-4045, or Detective Robert Wilson, of the Tinton Falls Police Department at 732-542-3400 ext. 443.

A federal jury in Trenton found that Monmouth County Corrections Officers did not violate the civil rights of, nor use excessive force in subduing a 22 year old inmate in 2010, according to a report at app.com. The jury found that Monmouth County and the Correctional Institution was no liable in the July29, 2010 death of Amit Bornstein, a Marlboro man who had been arrested earlier that day on contempt of court charges for failure to appear in court on burglary and drug charges.
The civil case was decided by the jury in a matter of hours following a two and one half week trial.

Ricky Marter, 51, his wife Donna Marter, 48, both of Tennent Road in Manalapan and Christine Bradach, 45, of Freehold Township, were arrested this week following their indictments on Monday on insurance fraud charges, according to a statement issued by Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
Ricky Marter was employed by the County of Monmouth as a supervising detention officer at the Monmouth County Youth Detention Center (YDC) in January 2010 when he claims to have slipped on water on the floor of the detention center – hitting his head and elbow as he fell. As a result of the slip-and-fall, Ricky Marter filed for workers’ compensation benefits and subsequently filed for an accidental disability pension with the State of New Jersey, claiming permanent and total disability as a result of his fall.

Kevin Motyka, 23, of Howell Township, was indicted on Friday by a Monmouth County grand jury, according to Acting Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
The 17 count indictment charges Motyka with 2 counts of first degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, 7 counts of second degree Sexual Assault, 5 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child involving the manufacture and distribution of child pornography; as well as permitting a child to engage in child pornography. Motyka is also charged with 2 counts of third degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child involving sexual conduct and the possession of more than 100 items of child pornography, as well as a lone count of fourth degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child related to possession of child pornography.
