Voters Answer Resounding ‘Yes’ to New Jersey’s Two Ballot Questions

1939Voters approved two ballot questions — one to replenish a virtually bankrupt open-space preservation program and the other to make fundamental changes to who is eligible for bail and who is not in New Jersey. Both questions, which would amend the state’s constitution, proved controversial. Unlike previous open-space ballot questions this one proved contentious, even…

Analysis: GOP Gubernatorial Gains Bolster Christie’s Presidential Hopes

2120Credit: Governor’s Office/Tim Larsen Gov. Chris Christie’s name wasn’t on the ballot Tuesday, but he was clearly one of the biggest winners of the 2014 midterm elections. Christie’s 70 days of coast-to-coast campaigning and the record $104 million he raised as Republican Governors Association chairman paid off in a string of gubernatorial victories that thrust him… Read the rest of this entry »

Election Results 2014: “In With the New!” 20-Year-Old Vincent Accettola Becomes Youngest Person Ever to Win A Board of Education Seat in New Jersey’s Largest Regional High School District

COLTS NECK, N.J., Nov. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Twenty year old Vincent Accettola became the youngest person ever to win a seat on the Board of Education for the Freehold Regional High School District (FRHSD). Accettola, a Colts Neck native and a product of New Jersey public schools, is a 2012 graduate of Biotechnology High School (BTHS) where he graduated at the top of his class. BTHS is ranked as the #1 public high school in NJ and #11 in the nation by US News & World Report. Accettola is currently a junior at Yale University majoring in psychology and neuroscience.

Accettola believes that his age will serve as an advantage by offering the Board a unique perspective as someone who recently experienced the educational system first hand. Said Accettola: “These past few years have allowed my ideas and opinions to germinate, especially on the topic of how to effectively prepare students for college in the modern age.”

WASHINGTON — Chris Christie wasn’t on any ballots Tuesday, but he may have scored the biggest win. Republican governors, who benefited from his fundraising and stumping as head of the Republican Governors Association, rode a Republican wave to victory. Gubernatorial races that looked to be close or even potential Republican losses turned into big GOP wins.… Read the rest of this entry »

New Jersey: Booker’s outreach resonates in Senate victory

Charles Booker and BradelyWASHINGTON — New Jersey voters gave Sen. Cory Booker six years to show what he means about finding bipartisan solutions Tuesday, re-electing the Democrat easily over Republican Jeff Bell, a staunch conservative who struggled to raise money and get his ideas before voters. Booker, 45, led in polls throughout the campaign and, with the approval rating… Read the rest of this entry »

Now and then, Good does prevail

Stuart MoskovitzBy Stuart J. Moskovitz

In every election there are winners and losers. This year was no exception. On the national scene, the obvious losers will be written about by most pundits – Obama and the Clintons. Obviously Harry Reid has probably seen his last days of power in any form. But there are other losers. The entire Democratic platform — the so-called war on women, the freebie mentality, the irresponsible blind eye to international distress, the cowardly acquiescence of the Democratic congress to Obama’s war on Israel, are all losers. Republicans elected young people, African-Americans, women, as diverse a group as anyone would want to see. In many cases these were the first of such to be elected in their state — an accomplishment the Democrats never managed and never would manage. These Democratic campaign platforms were as fake as their claim for the last forty years that Republicans would overturn Roe v. Wade. The electorate is simply not as naive as they were in 2008 and 2012. No more. Obama has accomplished at least that.

Interactive Map: Where Are NJ’s Safest Hospitals — and Which Were Rated ‘Poor?’

Hospitals MapZoom in and move the map to see facilities in areas where a number are close together or search by municipality. More than half of New Jersey’s hospitals aced the safety report card issued twice a year by a healthcare watchdog organization, but that doesn’t mean patients are completely safe from preventable errors. Earlier this week,… Read the rest of this entry »

A-Team disenfranchises hundreds?

Asbury Park ballot applications wrong again

Dan Jacobson

By Dan Jacobson

ASBURY PARK — For weeks, I’ve been blasting the A-Team slate for taking custody and control of hundreds of vote-by-mail/absentee ballots, with their supporters and paid operatives delivering them to voters. The voter then completes the ballot and mails it back for counting — or the A-Team delivery person can even take them back. It’s absurd.

The A-Team led by Mayoral candidate Remond Palmer is on track to deliver 500 of these ballots, known as vote-by-mail [VBM] ballots. That’s the election right there. Of course, this law was originally for invalids or shut-ins who had trouble getting their mail and wanted an absentee ballot. The A-Team is trying to drive hundreds of votes through that loophole.

I’ve consistently said they’re doing it wrong. In fact, we went down this road last year, with the Board of Elections disqualifying 250 ballots the A-Team organization delivered to voters in the 2013 election. A Judge agreed and said the applications for the ballots were flawed and the ballots can’t be counted.

Guess what.
