Monmouth GOP releases video calling on Curley to resign

The Monmouth County Republican Organization released a video on social media this afternoon featuring headlines concerning disgraced Freeholder John P. Curley’s censure and reprimand for sexual harassment and his corrupt practice of taking full time Cadillac health benefits for his part-time position.

Curley, a former Democrat Councilman in Red Bank and a former Republican, was elected to the Monmouth County Freeholder Board as a Republican in 2009.  He was reelected as a Republican in 2012 and 2015, but lost the support of the GOP following his censure by his colleagues on the freeholder board which resulted from an investigation into a County employee’s complaint into his conduct by former Acting Supreme Court Justice Mary Catherine Cuff.  Curley sued Monmouth County taxpayers in federal court to prevent the Cuff report from being released.  His suit was dismissed last month, but U.S. District Court Judge Brian R. Martinotti gave him until August 24 the file an amended suit thereby preventing the report from being released to the public.

Curley is running for reelection as an Independent.  Deputy Mayor Sue Kiley of Hazlet is the Republican candidate for the three year freeholder term.  Amber Gesslein, a union political operative who moved to Monmouth County after failing to win an Assembly seat in Ocean County, is the Democrat candidate.

The Monmouth County Democrats have been silent regarding the allegations against Curley and his suit to keep the report secret.

Angelo Genova, a prominent Democrat attorney who represented President Barack Obama during the 2012 election and Democrat consultant Maggie Moran in the 2016 election, is the disgraced freeholders attorney.

In his official biography on the Monmouth County website, Curley claims to be a Vice President of his brother’s car dealership, Jim Curley Buick GMC Kia of Lakewood.  The dealership website includes the family dogs, Mattingly and Mille, in the staff directory, but not the disgraced freeholder.

Isn’t this the same guy who blasted Serena Dimaso for taking health benefits? Something tells me that everything that has come out of his mouth all these years has been a lie. I don’t see how he can continue to stay on the board. Isn’t there a way to force him off given that so many women have come forward already?

Armchair Quarterbacks who will complain this isn’t enough.

    Sigh

your vote. We sometimes get people elected who start out ok, but then, kind of go off the rails, for some reason or reasons. It can be debated how the matter was handled, who was to blame, etc., but the bottom line is: it’s time to move on. Our job as the GOP is to hold the two seats that are up. Kiley and Scarfenberger are working hard to win, they are the party’s candidates, and if we want to move forward in a positive way, and win, we need to help make it happen. The Dems are very hungry for this county, there aren’t a lot of Rep counties left in Blue Jersey! It is too bad that John is hanging on til the last minute, making it more difficult, (as maybe a revenge move,) but we all make our choices. We will see what the voters think, in just a few months, and where the county GOP will stand, when it’s all over.

  4. Vice President? said at 8:19 am on August 7th, 2018:

Pretty sure John’s job at his brother’s dealership was being the guy that runs to pick up or deliver auto parts. If he wants to call that being the vice pres that’s ok I guess if it makes him feel better.

John giving himself a big title at his brothers car dealership is just one of the dozens of lies he spouts to the public. He has proven to be a self-centered egomaniac who doesn’t care about the public, the taxpayers, working with his fellow freeholders, or anything else except getting his name in the paper or taking credit for things he never did. If we all come out to vote and support the great Freeholder ticket we have things will be fine. I know a lot of people who have seen the light with John. Just need to make sure more people do the same

    Excellent Perspective.

Fortunately, the two Democrat candidates are made up with a lightweight and a perennial loser. The problem is making sure Curley doesn’t gain much more than a paltry amount of votes.

Looking at this year’s Dem offerings, Lutrell has lost before, seems not a terribly pleasant, qualified candidate. While we do not know much about the lady, there is a concern she brings union support to the table. GOTV, especially in our key local towns, is very important: no time to stay home, people.

  8. Proud Republican said at 2:14 pm on August 7th, 2018:

With Murphy and Menendez stinking up the joint, we should be able to destroy them in November. But with John playing games and actually telling people to vote for Democrats we have to work that much harder. It would be a crime if a Democrat or two slipped qin because of his stubbornness. Those of us who are active must be sure to help get out the vote with our friends, neighbors and relatives. The future of Monmouth County is hanging in the balance

If any of the commenters here have called the number and asked Curley to step aside. That’s the first step folks. It’s time to put our money where our mouth is, actually our keystrokes where our mouth is 🙂

I will actually be doing a bit of a stronger response soon.

Post here if you did. If not, it’s just more armchair quarterbacking

that this commercial is a good start. Employees still working for him can’t say anything, and he hasn’t listened to his colleagues, so, with not much money and knocking on a few doors, he’s rather limited in outreach, anyway. We’ll see..

  11. Where's Waldo (John)? said at 11:33 am on August 11th, 2018:

I’ve heard from several people who attempted to call his office that they are not picking up the phone now. I thought John was supposed to be a man of the people, but it looks like he’s admitting his guilt by not answering his phone
