Beck agrees to co-sponsor bill that would require special prosecutor to investigate Christie

Jen BeckSenator Jennifer Beck has signed on to a bill that would require the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate any criminal complaint against New Jersey’s governor.

Mike Hughes, Beck’s Chief of Staff, verified the story first reported by Politico.  “The Senator’s thinking is that the legislation makes sense for the public’s trust,” Hughes said. “The Attorney General and the County Prosecutors are appointed by the Governor.  Criminal complaints should be investigated independently.”

Hughes noted that if passed, the legislation to would apply to all future governors, not just Governor Chris Christie.

Christie is the subject of a Bridgegate related criminal complaint filed by a private citizen in Fort Lee municipal court.  Judge Roy McGready, who oversees all municipal courts in Bergen County, found that there was probable cause for the case to move forward.  Christie is appealing McGready’s decision, which was referred to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.  Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir Grewal and Attorney General Christopher Porrino have recused themselves from the case, according to published reports.

The text of the bill, S2800, has not yet been published.  Senator Ray Lesniak (D-Union) is the primary sponsor of the bill.

    Beck plays both sides of the street.

    Sher made a big media splash about opposing the GAS TAX but when push came to shove about the boondoggle of Public Question #2 and the $12 BILLION in borrowing, she was among the missing.

    Going waaaay back, I can personally tell you that she does things like this all the time. Gets a headline, then heads for the bar.

    It’s all about her, not you and me.

    She is simply not to be trusted.
