Predictions
Donald Trump will be elected President of the United States.
Congressman Chris Smith will be reelected with over 70% of the vote in the 4th Congressional District.
Congressman Frank Pallone will survive the Brexit type Trump wave by less than 5%.
Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden will be reelected by over 10%
Monmouth County Surrogate Rosemarie Peters will be reelected by over 10%
Freeholder Director Tom Arnone will be easily reelected as the top vote getter in the race for two Freeholder seats.
Freeholder Deputy Director Serena DiMaso will survive the onslaught of negative TV ads against her and defeat newcomer Sue Fulton by 4%.
Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty will come in last place in the Freeholder race, derailing his political viability. He will step down as Mayor of Belmar before the end of the year.
Democrat Sheriff candidate Jeff Cantor and Surrogate candidate Vincent Solomeno will get cushy government or non-profit jobs outside of Monmouth County within six months.
Questions
Public Question #1, the expansion of casino gambling into Northern New Jersey will fail.
Public Question #2, the dedication of the Gas Tax revenue to the Transportation Trust Fund will fail.
Municipal Races we’re watching
Republican Council candidates Joshua Vallario and Mark Walsifer will be elected in Belmar in another rebuke to the performance of Mayor Matt Doherty.
In Red Bank, Republican Council Candidate Kellie O’Bosky Colwell and Democrat incumbent Councilwoman Kathy Horgan will be elected. Republicans will retain their nominal 4-2 control of the governing body.
Howell Republicans Dan Cardellichio for Mayor and Evelyn O’Donnell for Council will beat back the well funded anti-development campaign against them.
Hazlet Republicans Scott Aagre and Michael Glackin will retain control of the Township Committee for the GOP.
We always watch Middletown for the same reason we enjoyed watching the Harlem Globetrotters in their day. It’s fun to watch extraordinary talent perform even when there is no meaningful competition. Gerry Sharfenberger and Kevin Settembrino will easily be reelected.
Manalapan Republicans Mayor Mary Ann Musich and Kevin Uniglicht will survive the NJ Dem State Committee funded anti-development campaign thanks to the Trump wave.
In Atlantic Highlands, incumbent Republican Councilmen Lou Fligor and Jake Hoffman, running as Independents and with the support of the Atlantic Highlands Democrats, will easily defeat Republicans Susan Tidswell and Steven Boracchia.
In the non-partisan mayoral race in Highlands, former Mayor Rick O’Neil will defeat Councilman Doug Card.
Monmouth County Democrat Chairman Vin Gopal will declare victory due to the Atlantic Highlands and Red Bank results and the possible Democratic take back of Eatontown. Vin will also take credit for winning a Board of Education seat in Bradley Beach.
I’m never very good at the prediction business (outside of 2012 general election…lol) but I think HC wins with 300+ EC votes. On close battleground states I think she takes FL and PA with Trump winning NC and Ohio. Agree with Art that the race for the 2nd Freeholder seat will be close.
1 fails 2 passes. Hopefully they come back with another referendum in two years on the expansion of casino gambling in NJ that does not ignore Monmouth Park and other tracks needing to be able to compete with tracks in surrounding states on an equal basis.
In Pallone’s case, would the Brexit type wave be a Brentxit type wave?
As to Howell and Manalapan, ironic that the Democrats are running “anti-development” campaigns. It was Democrats that brought much of the overdevelopment here in western Monmouth in the first place. Don’t watch what they say, and hope we never get an opportunity to watch what they do.
Inquiring,
Most of Pallone’s district is in Middlesex County. I think Trump and the R’s will do better than usual in Middlesex, not not well enough.
And when Cantor loses, he can go back to his taking public funded health insurance, his monthly stipend for being a part time councilman, not even showing up for most meetings, claiming he was on an assignment, and go back to pushing things that only benefit himself and his buddies.
I’d like to add these post election predictions:
Hillary Clinton will not survive until Inauguration Day, she is very sick, old, unhealthy, and propped up by her handlers who now have nothing to gain by helping her put up a facade and they’ll walk away and leave her to rest peacefully. My prayers are with her children and grandchildren. Bill Clin ton will be seen the following day with his new wife who he has been dating for 20 years.
After 4 great years under Trump, the next POTUS will be from NJ; Cory Booker. He will run against Mike Bloomberg and some Republican politician no one has heard of, from some state in the middle of the country, that no one has ever been to.
Firearms demand will drop drastically, reducing prices to pre-Obama days.
Rham Emanuel will be forced to resign when Chicago reaches the 1000 shot dead mark for year 2017, by October. BLM will blame Trump and white people.
The wall will be built, Mexico will pay for it.
If Hillary beats the odds and survives until February, The FBI indictment of Hillary Clinton will happen, Obama will not be able to pardon her.
Democrats will win every single state election in NJ from this day forward: assembly, senate, gov… Jen Beck will register as a democrat and get re-elected back to state senate.
Chris Christie gets a job … pumping gas, but ends up in jail for helping friends skirt HIS new gas tax.
I could use a mulligan this morning.
and celebrate the voices of the forgotten taxpayers being heard, at last: Trump will bring class and business smarts, as well as a new group of bright people,to the job: Hillary’s concession was, ironically, her best: had she not tried to “out- man” the guy, and shown more real humanity, she might have appeared more genuine and believable: lesson learned, ambitious ladies: be you, and be true to your ideas and ideals, and you will go further..hoping Obama doesn’t conduct more mischief, before he goes: am hoping for a peaceful power transfer: the country gave him a big chance, and he unfortunately squandered it, with too much division, negativity, selfishness, and expensive, sneaky moves which more people rejected.. we have learned it is not enough to be the “first” of any group: you need to be the right “first” at the right time, in history: God bless our new President and Vice President, ( what a great choice in Mike Pence!), and their families:they will need a lot of help and wisdom, to get us going, again.
