Partners Mike Skudera, Chris Hanigan and Peter Artherholt celebrate the Grand Opening of their microbrewery. June 2016
It’s been a terrific first year for Chris Hanigan, Pete Artherholt, Mike Skudera, the founding partners of Jughandle Brewing Company in Tinton Falls. Since opening their Asbury Ave microbrewery and taproom on June 18 last year, the beermeisters have their brew flowing in about 40 New Jersey adult beverage establishments.
Jughandle Brewing has doubled its beer taps, hired additional staff, extended its public tasting room hours, increased capacity by purchasing new fermenters, and continues to expand its wholesale market to new establishments throughout New Jersey.

Eatontown Mayor Calls For Resignation Of Council President and Municipal Judge
By Eatontown Mayor Dennis J. Connelly
Eatontown Mayor Dennis Connelly
A backroom deal by the newly elected Eatontown Borough Council President Anthony Talerico and 3 of his followers will cost the taxpayers dearly. One of the first deeds of Eatontown Borough Council President was to install his high school friend and local attorney, Eugene Melody III, as the Eatontown Municipal Court judge for a 3-year term. Melody, a general law practitioner, has never held a judgeship, never been a prosecutor, nor has he served as a public defender. At the very least, either of the latter two positions is critical in understanding the workings of a municipal court and would be the logical foundation for qualifications as a municipal court judge. Not so, in Talerico’s mind. Eugene Melody is his go to guy for patronage positions. Melody was appointed as Special Council in 2013 and was pushed for judgeship by Talerico in 2014 before he rescinded his application after realizing he was not getting the appointment.

Public safety will be enhanced and traffic will flow easier on Asbury Ave between Garden State Parkway exit 102 and Shafto Road in Tinton Falls thanks to a new traffic signal that was activated yesterday by Freeholders Tom Arnone and Serena DiMaso and employees of the Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering.
“Monmouth County’s first traffic improvement for 2017 is the activation of the traffic signal on Asbury Avenue at Fox Chase and Cannonball Drive,” said Freeholder Arnone. “The signal will improve overall safety for motorists and pedestrians while allowing for better traffic flow and operational efficiency at the intersection. We appreciate the support and patience of local residents and the Tinton Falls officials as we worked to improve public safety in the area.”

Monmouth County has received a $206,000 federal grant from the Department of Defense to prepare a Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) for Naval Weapons Station Earle.
A cooperative land use planning effort between affected local government entities and the military installation, the project looks to create compatible development measures to keep the base operational, while also looking out for the surrounding public’s health, safety, and welfare. When land use decisions impair the effectiveness of a military base, the utility of the installation and its mission can be compromised. Mission constraints can lead to base closure. Monmouth County will contribute $32,500 in staff time and materials to the study.

Tinton Falls-Three Monmouth County residents, former Tinton Falls Mayor Michael Skudera, Pete Artherholt, also of Tinton Falls, and Chris Hanigan of Red Bank are on track to open Jughandle Brewing Co. on Asbury Ave in the borough in the spring of 2016.
“We will offer 6 craft beers on tap and plan on expanding to 14,” says Artherholt, a former chemist with over 15 years of brewing experience. Through Artherholt’s wife Darlene, who has a master’s in microbiology, the group has access to knowledge and skills that are usually acquired only when breweries expand and become better established. “Having a strong science background will help drive consistency and quality control in the craft beers that we sell.”
