Monmouth County: Sheriff Shaun Golden is reinforcing the message to prepare, plan, stay informed and get involved as National Preparedness Month gets underway. National Preparedness Month, sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is an effort to educate the public on how to prepare for emergencies. This year’s National Preparedness theme is: Prepared Not Scared.
“The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with numerous agencies, prepares for emergencies such as natural disasters, active shooters, mass casualties and chemical threats throughout the year by conducting drills, training, tabletops exercises and educational programs,” said Sheriff Shaun Golden whose agency runs the Office of Emergency Management. “These types of training exercises are critical in ensuring that we can effectively and efficiently respond to crises situations. It’s vital the public plays a role as well by preparing, planning and staying informed.”

Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden announced a partnership with Team Rubicon, a non-profit group of veterans that unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams.
To improve response and recovery of disasters and emergency situations, Team Rubicon along with members of the Monmouth and Ocean County Building Officials Association, attended a training seminar at the Public Safety Center in Freehold on September 21. The focus was on damage assessment and the utilization of a new software system to record and track the damages caused by a disaster.

Middletown OEM and Mayor Tony Fiore have ordered a mandatory evacuation of North Middletown, Port Monmouth, Belford, and Leonardo, due to the oncoming nor’easter, effective 3PM today, November 7.
Fiore said that the evacucation is due to expected tidal flooding and as a precaution because of the severe structural damage caused to the many homes in the area Hurricane Sandy last week.
