Seantor Declan O’Scanlon announced this morning that he plans to introduce legislation that would make aggravated animal abuse a second or third degree crime, depending on the severity of the offense.
Second degree crime convictions carry sentences of 5-10 years in state prison and fines of up to $150,000. Third degree crime convictions do not carry the presumption of incarceration but can carry sentences of 3-5 in state prison and fines up to $15,000.

Miguel Hernandez Colon, an 85 year old veteran of the Korean War, was honored for his military service by Congressman Chris Smith yesterday afternoon during a surprise ceremony attended by Hernandez’s family and friends at the Active Day Adult Day Health Center, in Hamilton.
Hernandez served in the 65th Infantry Regiment, based in Puerto Rico, from 1952 through 1954 and as a reservist for seven years. His unit, known and the “Borinqueneers,” was one of the last segregated units in the U.S. Military.

Pay attention to your mail. If you voted by mail in 2016, you will receive a Mail-In-Ballot this year too, due to a new law signed by Governor Murphy this month.
Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon announced changes to the vote by mail procedures in a press release on Friday afternoon.
“A new law signed by Governor Phil Murphy in August dramatically changed the Vote by Mail rules in New Jersey. These changes are effective immediately and will impact the November General Election,” Hanlon said.

The Welle Tax would impact 21.3% of the households in New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District, according to data provided by StatisticalAtlas.com.

Congressman Steny Hoyer, the #2 Democrat in the House of Representatives behind Nancy Pelosi, will be in New York City on Thursday to raise campaign cash for Josh Welle, the Democrat running against Congressman Chris Smith in the 4th congressional district of New Jersey, according to an invitation to the fundraiser obtained by MMM.
Hoyer entered the House in 1981, the same year as Smith.
Josh Welle, the Democrat running against Congressman Chris Smith is holding a town hall meeting in Jackson tonight at the Sons of American Vets Post at 1290 Toms River Road in Jackson.
During a gathering of the Monmouth and Ocean County Democrats last February when Welle was competing for the Democrat nomination to challenge Congressman Smith, Welle said that he wants to end discrimination and racism in the district, but that residents of Howell, Jackson, Allentown, Millstone and people who voted for Smith for 37 years, “are not there yet.”
