Crews said they were still working Friday to find out how the critically endangered whale that was discovered off the coast of Monmouth County Thursday died.
The whale’s carcass was spotted floating in the ocean near Monmouth Beach at 12:15 p.m. Friday after first being seen a few miles south in the water off of Long Branch, according to a statement from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Hirsh Singh is defending his letter asking GOP primary voters to request a duplicate ballot from their County Clerk if they have already cast a vote for his opponent. Singh said he was unsure if his campaign would comply with Attorney General Gurbir Grewal’s demand that he cease mailing the letter and surrender his mailing list of potential voters to the State.
If there’s an indication of demand for the state Motor Vehicle Commission’s agencies to reopen, it might be the people who showed up at the Bakers Basin agency in Lawrence Township on Tuesday, looking for answers, even though it won’t open for another six days.
Opening day for agencies is June 29, and it will only be for limited transactions that can’t be done online. MVC officials have to process a three-month backlog of these transactions and make sure customers follow the new rules to prevent spread of the coronavirus.

Travelers coming to New Jersey from states where coronavirus cases are spiking must quarantine for 14 days, according to a new travel advisory announced by Gov. Phil Murphy on Wednesday.
The announcement was made along with the governors of New York and Connecticut, which all agreed to the restriction. The travel advisory takes effect at midnight Wednesday.
