Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden
As summer is coming to a close, law enforcement throughout Monmouth County is participating in the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign lead by the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety, according to Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden.
The campaign to crack down on drunk driving started last Friday and extends through Labor Day, September 7.
“We want everyone to enjoy the remainder of the summer, but, if you are going to drink, don’t drive, it’s as simple as that,” said Golden. “Law enforcement will be out in full force and on the lookout for drunk drivers.”

After a successful debut in Howell last week, Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon, Sheriff Shaun Golden and Surrogate Rosemarie Peters are bringing the Mobile County Connection to the Middletown Library on Tuesday from 10 am till 1 p.m.
The Mobile County Connection office is housed in a large mobile command center.
This is a great opportunity for Middletown area residents who need to renew or apply for their passports, want to update their voting records, need notary services or have questions about wills, estates and guardianship/adoptions to avoid the trek to Freehold or Neptune.
Sheriff’s Officers will be offering Youth and Ident-Adult Identification Cards and information on the proper installation of child safety seats, along with other agency services. Unarmed fugitives can surrender to Golden if there are no kids around.

Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon, Surrogate Rosemarie Peters and Sheriff Shaun Golden are teaming up and taking their show on the road in a mobile office, aka The Mobile County Connection, starting tomorrow, August 12 at Howell Township Library.
“We are proud to be unveiling such an important outreach program,” said Hanlon. “It is the first of its kind in Monmouth County and features mobile government services in an effort to connect people with government in their communities.”
The Mobile County Connection office will be housed in a large mobile command center and be rolled out for the first time at the Howell Township Library, 318 Old Tavern Rd., August 12, from 11am to 2pm. During the event, residents will be able to apply for and renew their passports as well as have passport photos taken. Residents will also have access to free notary services and voter/election information.

Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden
Applications are now being accepted to the 19th Annual Monmouth County Citizen Police Academy, Sheriff Shaun Golden announced this morning.
A prerequisite for participating in VISCOMP (Volunteers in Sheriff’s Community Programs), the course is designed to foster and promote an understanding by citizens in Monmouth County of the services offered and challenges facing the law enforcement agencies in the county. It is envisioned that graduates of the Citizen Police Academy will gain awareness and appreciation of the services provided by these agencies and will become “goodwill ambassadors” for the law enforcement and public safety community.
The course consists of six sessions on consecutive Tuesday evenings, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, starting on September 22 and concluding with graduation on October 27th. The 12-hour block of instruction designed to give attendees an overview of law enforcement services in Monmouth County and features presentations by municipal, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

Monmouth County’s Sheriff Youth Week is no ordinary summer camp.
For one week each summer, Monmouth County high school students with an interest in law enforcement receive intensive and rigorous police academy type of training.
Last Friday, at the conclusion of this summer’s Sheriff Youth Week, Sheriff Shaun Golden presented 140 graduates certificates recognizing their successful completion of the program which is based out of the Monmouth County Police Academy and provides high school aged students a unique opportunity to explore interests in law enforcement through police academy style training, exercise programs and instructional sessions.
“I’m proud of the entire Sheriff Youth Week class for staying the course and commend them for completing this intensive week of law enforcement training,” said Golden. “The program provides the graduates with an opportunity to explore the realm of possibilities of a career in law enforcement.”
Each day began with drill and ended with exercise. During the week, the class learned about various law enforcement topics and agencies. An overview of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Division, the 9-1-1 Communications Division and the Monmouth County Correctional Division was provided.

Middletown Police have charged Toni Ann Marletta, 49 of the Leonardo section of the Township, in the hit and run motor vehicle crash that resulted in the death in Marissa Procopia, 15 of Atlantic Highlands.
Marletta was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident, Failing to Report a Motor Vehicle Accident, No Insurance, Unsafe Tires and Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident. She is being held on $150,000.00 bail with no 10% option set by Judge Honora O’Brien-Kilgallen of the Monmouth County Superior Court.
Marletta is not listed yet as an inmate on the Monmouth County Sheriff’s website, as of 1 p.m.
Charles Webster, spokesperson for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, told MMM that Marletta was being held in Middletown where she was unable to post bail. Webster said she in custody and being transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.
Cynthia Scott, spokesperson for the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, told MMM that Marletta was booked into the Correctional Institution at about 1:30 p.m.

The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office announced the launch of its of its new and very improved website today. Check it out at www.monmouthsheriff.org
The website, which was produced in-house by the Sheriff’s Information Technology Department, is equipped with the latest web design technology, enabling users to easily interact from all of their devices..phones, tablets and desktop computers.
“The sheriff’s office newly redesigned website increases our contact with the residents by providing them with a wealth of public safety resources in a fast and efficient manner,” said Sheriff Shaun Golden. “It includes valuable and real time information and those who visit the website will find it easier to navigate and more user friendly.”
All of the sheriff’s office divisions are highlighted on the website which includes Law Enforcement, Communications, Special Operations and Corrections, along with the Office of Emergency Management, community outreach programs and an archive of current and past news releases.

Freehold: Sheriff Shaun Golden is committed to having law enforcement remain in the forefront when it comes to autism awareness. He was pleased to welcome Fran Hines, an autism awareness trainer with the New Jersey Department of Health, and, a parent of an autistic child, to the Monmouth County Police Academy, on April 1, which marks the beginning of Autism Awareness Month. Hines held a training session for the 43 recruits from the 88th Basic Course for Police Officers on autism awareness.
“As we recognize April as Autism Awareness Month, it’s vital to note that the law enforcement community is dedicated to acknowledging this disorder throughout the year,” said Sheriff Shaun Golden, a trustee of the Monmouth Ocean Foundation for Children. “Through attentive training, it’s vital that law enforcement officers become equipped with information and understand the problems associated with autism to effectively assist an individual who needs help.”
