How Monmouth’s Legislators voted on the gas tax

img_0858-800x531The New Jersey Legislature approved a $.23 per gallon sales tax increase today, accompanied by a phase out of the estate tax, a gradual fractional reduction in the sale tax and tax breaks for veterans and the working poor.  The Senate vote was 28-14.  The vote in the Assembly was 44-27.

Doherty’s long term support for the gas tax increase, toll hikes and other profitable ventures

christie Doherty belmarBelmar Mayor Matt Doherty, a candidate for Monmouth County Freeholder, is a long term supporter of the gas tax increase that is up for a vote in the State Legislature on Friday.

In 2014, Doherty wrote a letter endorsing the work of Foward New Jersey, a coalition of unions and other special interest groups who will collect the $2 million per mile construction costs that the $.23 per gallon gas tax  will fund. Forward New Jersey has been lobbying for the gas tax increase for almost two years and is waging a social media campaign to counter the grass-roots opposition to the tax increase as you are reading this article.  Doherty’s letter can be found here.

The Manalapan Pigs Are Gone

thats-all-folksManalapan Mayor Mary Ann Musich announced during a Township Committee meeting last night that the pigs that arrived at the farm at the corner of Route 33 and Millhurst Road on Tuesday were removed from the property by the end of the day on Wednesday.

Following the meeting, Musich told MoreMonmouthMusings that the pigs were removed after Township Attorney Roger McLaughlin cancelled a meeting with a developer who is preparing a proposal for the property.  McLaughlin informed the developer that there will be no discussions so long as there are pigs present on the farm, according to Musich.

There is a pig farm in Manalapan

Mayor Musich Expects To Take Legal Action To Stop The Pig Farming

It took about three weeks longer than the property owner expected, but there is a pig farm at the corner of Millhurst Road and Route 33 in the Township of Manalapan.

Joe Spano, the owner of the property announced last month that he was planning a pig farm for the property given the repeated failure of the Township Committee to approve any of the development proposals for the property.  The farm has been a low impact soy bean field for years.  Spano said he is under pressure from his bank to generate more revenue from the property.

Doherty thumbs his nose at the Court, lies to the press

Belmar Main Street WalkBelmar Mayor Matt Doherty told The Asbury Park Press that he would disclose all donations to his campaign for Monmouth County Freeholder under the amount of $300, but only those donations received after July 13.  July 13 was the date that the Doherty administration filed the 12 year old pay to play ethics ordinance with the state.

“I’m going to follow the ordinance and the state statutes to the letter.” Doherty told app.  It’s disappointing that the reporter let him get away with that Clinton speak.

Seeking Manalapan Bank Robber, Prosecutor Releases Video and Photos

Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni released surveillance video of the man investigators believe robbed the the Sun National Bank branch on Route 9 southbound between Taylor’s Mills Rd. and Symmes Drive in Manalapan last week.  The video was capture at a nearby retail location about an hour the robbery.

Investigators are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect.
