Hazlet Boy Scout’s Eagle Project Saves RAINE Foundation $4K Per Year

A Hazlet teenager’s leadership and commitment to his community will have a lasting impact on the RAINE Foundation, the all volunteer local charity that delivers thousands of toys to hundreds of Bayshore families at Christmas and supports families in crisis everyday.

Kyle Mulvey, a Raritan High School junior and a Life Scout with Boy Scout Troop 66 of the Twin Lights District of the Monmouth County Council, Boy Scouts of America led 80 volunteers….fellow scouts and members of the Raritan wrestling and football teams..in building a new operations center for RAINE. The project, which is part of Mulvey becoming an Eagle Scout, consisted of acquiring a storage trailer, securing a location and rigging it with shelving and solar powered lighting.  RAINE will use the facility to store the supplies it uses to help families in need.

Kiley Connects High School Students and Seniors

Hazlet, NJ- Mayor Sue Kiley announced a new community building program in her Mayor’s Update this week.

“Connect” is a program that Kiley has been developing to bring people, places and things together for the betterment of the community.  The inaugural Connect session was on June 7 when Raritan High School honor students, under the direction of teachers Ms. Melissa Trenton and Ms. Melissa Gardner, met with Hazlet Senior Citizens at the Cullen Center for a session on how to use modern technology.

“I’m leaning to use my not so smart phone,” one of the seniors joked.

Hazlet Man Admits Sexually Assaulting Elderly Nursing Home Patient In His Care

Todd Fulton, 43, a certified nursing assistant from Hazlet, pleaded guilty on Monday to sexually assaulting a female patient who was in his care at the then Monmouth County owned Geraldine Thompson Care Center in Wall Township in 2015, according to an announcement by Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

A Monmouth County Grand Jury indicted Fulton on last month for first degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, one count of second degree Sexual Assault and one count of second degree Official Misconduct.  He pleaded guilty to one count of second degree Sexual Assault and one count of second degree Official Misconduct before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Thomas F. Scully.

Sue Kiley will be Hazlet Mayor in 2017

Hazlet Mayor-elect Sue Kiley @ The RAINE Foundation’s annual toy distribution.

Hazlet’s Township Committee has selected Deputy Mayor Sue Kiley to lead the community as Mayor in 2017.

Kiley will be sworn in by Lt Governor Kim Guadagno during the Township’s Reorganization meeting which is scheduled for Sunday, January 1, 2017 at noon.  Scott Aagre, the current mayor, will serve as Deputy Mayor in 2017 and also be sworn in by Guadagno.

Aagre, who was reelected in November, and his running mate, Mike Glackin, will be sworn into their three year terms on the Township Committee by Senator Joe Kyrillos.

Hazlet Man Charged With Middletown Bank Robbery

Justin Rafalko, 25, of Sycamore Drive in Hazlet was charged with robbing the TD Bank branch on Harmony Road in Middletown, according to a statement by Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

Rafaldo entered the bank at around 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, approached a teller with a note that indicated he was armed and demanding money. He fled the scene on a bicycle.

The Keansburg police apprehended Rafalko later on Saturday along the Henry Hudson Trail.  He was identified via surveillance video.

The investigation was a cooperative effort of the Monmouth County Prosectuor’s Office, the Middletown Police Department, the Hazlet Police Department and the FBI.

“This was a great team effort by all the law enforcement agencies involved to bring this case to a swift conclusion,” said Prosecutor Gramiccioni.

Monmouth County Launches Flooding Awareness Program

A countywide collaboration with Monmouth County’s government, FEMA, Monmouth University Urban Coast Institute, New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium, National Park Service, Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve at Rutgers University, Navy Weapons Station Earle, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and Verizon designed to raise the public’s awareness of flood risks and to encourage the mitigation of those risks was launched this morning in Middletown with the installation of a High Water Mark (HWM) sign at the Belford Ferry Terminal.

FEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program’s High Water Mark awareness program gives participating municipalities Community Rating System (CRS) points which result in residents of the community getting a break on their flood insurance premiums.

Municipal participation is voluntary and there is no cost to the towns for participating.

Hazlet Man Charged With Prostituting Underage Girls

Robert Ianuale, 32, of Ned Drive in Hazlet was arrested at his home on Monday and charged with two counts of first degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child by causing or permitting a child to engage in child pornography; one count of first degree Promoting Prostitution of a Minor; one count of first degree Use of a Juvenile to Commit a Crime; two counts of second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Distribution of Child Pornography); one count of third degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Possession of Child Pornography); one count of third degree Financial Facilitation of Criminal Activity; and one count of third degree Luring or Enticing an Adult.

Also known as “FistPump,” Ianuale is the owner/operator of SwerveCast, an online live broadcasting service.  SwerveCast is offline as of this posting.
