By Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

Spring is finally here! It’s great to see the trees and flowers begin to bloom and show signs that warmer weather is on its way. I hope everyone has been able to enjoy time outside and hopefully visit some Grown in Monmouth properties!

I’d like to thank everyone who participated in Earth Day events throughout the County, including beach sweeps and property cleanups. I had the chance to visit with volunteers who were cleaning up the area surrounding Shark River.

Arnone thanks workers for snow cleanup, addresses County budget

By Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

Freeholder Director Tom Arnone speaks at the NJTPA Board Meeting – Jan 22, 2018

Happy Spring! I’m sure I am joined by many in saying I hope we saw our last snowfall until next winter season.

I’d like to thank our department of public works employees for working throughout this recent storm to clear our roads and county-owned properties. As always, these employees did a great job. I’d also like to thank our first responders who were also out working throughout the storm in difficult weather conditions.

On a separate note, the 2018 Monmouth County budget was approved during the March 19th meeting of the Board of Chosen Freeholders. When we first introduced our budget, there was a proposed 1-percent tax increase. Ultimately, the approved budget includes a half-percent tax increase.

Arnone Report: Updates on bridge repairs, Shark River dredging and the coming tourism season

By Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

Freeholder Director Tom Arnone speaks at the NJTPA Board Meeting – Jan 22, 2018

While I could say the last few weeks have been very busy, the truth of the matter is that the County stays busy around the year with ongoing projects and initiatives.

I would like to provide a few updates from the departments I oversee, including the County’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. I’m proud to serve as the liaison to this department and cannot praise enough the tremendous work these – and all – County employees do on a daily basis to maintain the high quality of life we enjoy in Monmouth County.

One ongoing project this department has been working on is the rehabilitation of the East End Avenue Bridge, located between Neptune Township and Neptune City.  This project was designed to improve overall safety of the traveling public in the area. Additionally, it’s $3.7 million cost will receive 92% of its funding through the New Jersey State Transportation Trust Fund, with the remainder of funding coming from the County, at no cost to the municipalities. The Arnone Report: Important Infrastructure Projects In The Works

By Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

Freeholder Director Tom Arnone speaks at the NJTPA Board Meeting – Jan 22, 2018

I hope everyone is staying warm, happy and healthy this winter season. It sure has been a cold one but there is only a little more than 100 days until the unofficial start to the summer season!

In the meantime, I would like to provide some information stemming from our recent meeting of the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

During our last meeting, we unanimously approved a resolution allowing emergency repairs to be made to the Glimmer Glass Bridge on Brielle Road in Manasquan. The scope of this project includes the installation of additional timber piles, the installation of fiberglass jackets on piles and mechanical repairs among other miscellaneous repairs. This work is scheduled to be completed and the bridge reopened to traffic in time for the upcoming summer season. Read the rest of this entry »

Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season with family and friends. The holidays always seem to come and go too fast.

The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders reorganization meeting was held last week and I am honored to say I was selected to serve as director of the Board. This will be my third term serving in this leadership position. Freeholder Lillian Burry will serve alongside me as deputy director. Read the rest of this entry »

Happy Holidays! I hope everyone has been having a happy and healthy holiday season while keeping warm.

It’s clear – winter is here. I would like to thank all of our County employees who assisted in the preparation and cleanup of the recent snow events we had here in Monmouth County. I know our County employees are prepared for what may come our way the rest of the season. Read the rest of this entry »

Arnone Report: Over the river and through….

By Monmouth County Freeholder Tom Arnone

Happy December! I would like to wish everyone a happy holiday season. I hope everyone is able to enjoy time with their family and friends in between all of the shopping.

Personally, I was very pleased to see nearly 1,000 shoppers stopped by our annual Mini Made in Monmouth last weekend at Covered Bridge in Manalapan. A spinoff of our widely popular Made in Monmouth event held each spring at Monmouth University, this smaller version featured 80 small business owners selling their locally made products and goods. It is truly a win-win for all involved – small business owners receive the support they need and shoppers can purchase so many great items right in time for the holidays. The Arnone Report: Shark River Dredging and Healthy Eating Initiative Updates

By Monmouth County Freeholder Tom Arnone

Monmouth County Freeholder Tom Arnone

Happy November! With all of this warm weather recently, it’s hard to believe we’re just a few weeks away from celebrating the holidays. Either way, it’s a great time of the year and, as always, there is so much going on and so much to do in Monmouth County.

As we approach the end of the year, I would like to give a brief update on the second phase of the Shark River dredging project. As part of the second phase, dredge materials have been temporarily placed on Seaview Island until they are removed at the conclusion of the project next spring. The actual dredging process – which includes pumping the material onto the island to dry – was scheduled to be completed by the end of this year and I am pleased to announce the project remains on schedule. The Arnone Report: Fighting Cancer

By Monmouth County Freeholder Tom Arnone

Monmouth County Freeholders proclaim Infinite Love of Kids Fighting Cancer Day

As an elected official, you have the chance to meet hundreds of people during your tenure. I would like to share a story about a few special people I had the honor of recently meeting in person during a meeting of the Board of Chosen Freeholders.

It all started a couple weeks ago when I was reading through a local newspaper and came across a story about a charity event held to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. As part of the fundraiser, members of the community, including first responders, volunteered to have their heads shaved by children. Helping to coordinate the event was the Gorsegner family of Middletown. Read the rest of this entry »
