CLEVELAND — Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on Friday night chose Tim Kaine as her running mate, bypassing U.S. Sens. Cory Booker of New Jersey, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and two Hispanic members of President Barack Obama’s Cabinet. Just in time to suppress voter turnout in the California and New Jersey primaries, the main news feed of the main stream media, the Associated Press, declared Hillary Clinton the winner of the Democrat nomination for president.
Clinton was expected to lockup the nomination with pledged delegates when the results of the New Jersey primary are declared this evening. Hillary leads the polls in New Jersey by a substantial margin.
Clinton and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders are locked in a hot contest in California, with Clinton’s narrow lead within the margin of error.

LAWRENCE TWP. — For at least a bit, the focus of Donald Trump’s first campaign visit to New Jersey wasn’t on Donald Trump. Unlike his usual free rallies, admission to Trump’s event Thursday night at the Lawrenceville National Guard Armory was $200 (and $25 for students). Proceeds went to help Gov. Chris Christie, pay off the… Read the rest of this entry »

By Alan J. Steinberg
I have had a rather poor prediction record in this year’s presidential primaries, as I vastly underrated Donald Trump’s appeal. I remain intrepid, however, so the following is my initial Electoral College 2016 projection.
In order to be elected president, a candidate must win states giving him or her a total of at least 270 electoral votes. I believe that Donald Trump will carry all the states won by Mitt Romney in 2012, giving him a base of 206 electoral votes.
I classify seven of the states won by Barack Obama in 2012 as swing states in 2016. These states are the three double digit electoral vote states of Florida (29 electoral votes), Ohio (18), and Pennsylvania (20), and the four single digit electoral vote states of New Hampshire (4), Iowa (6), Colorado (9), and Nevada (6), for a total of 92 electoral votes. Hillary Clinton is likely to carry all the other states won by Obama in 2012, giving her a base of 240 electoral votes.

Cruz Zigged While the GOP Electorate Zagged
By Patrick Murray
The Cruz campaign’s attempt to coalesce the #NeverTrump movement around their candidate #NeverHappened. In hindsight, the attempt to position him as the establishment alternative may not have been the wisest move.
Ted Cruz entered the 2016 presidential race with a reputation as the Senate Republican conference’s enfant terrible. He ended his campaign as the establishment’s last hope to deny Donald Trump the party’s nomination. The problem is that GOP voters’ desire for a political outsider intensified just as he was making this pivot.
Exit polls conducted by the national media’s National Election Pool asked voters in 24 different contests this year whether the next president should have experience in politics or be from outside the political establishment.

WASHINGTON — To all the political junkies yearning for a contested Republican convention this summer: not so fast. It’s still possible for Donald Trump to clinch the nomination by the end of the primaries on June 7. His path is narrow and perilous.
