19 Arrested in Monmouth Prostitution Sting

damaging-prostitution19 people were arrested last weekend on prostitution related charges according to an announcement by Sheriff Shaun Golden.  The arrests occurred in Wall and Hazlet Townships.

The undercover operation was conducted by the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hazlet and Wall Township Police Departments.

Twelve females were charged with solicitation of prostitution and seven people were charged with promotion of prostitution. Additional charges included possession of Controlled Dangerous Substances, possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone and possession of a weapon. A total of $5,000 was confiscated.

Highlands Businesses Holding Holiday Lights Contest

IMG_2185The Highlands Business Partnership is awarding cash prizes and gift certificates (BID Bucks) to borough residents who light up their homes for the 3rd Annual Holiday Lights Contest.

“This a a perfect way to show off community pride and light up the holiday season,” said HBP President Carla Cefalo-Braswell.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.  BID Bucks can be used at any Highlands establishment.

Judging will take place on Saturday, December 19 from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m.  The awards will be presented to the winners at their homes that evening.

Contestants have the option of having their addresses publicized.  Residents can register for the contest, which is free on charge, here.

NJ State Police Bomb Unit Assisting Marlboro Police with Route 9 Bus

nj-state-police-symboljpg-02b3e0ada0e0b240_largeThe Marlboro Police Department closed Route 9 in both directions this morning, according to reports on 511nj.org and Monmouth County Police, Fire and EMS.

MCPFE is reporting that the NJ Jersey State Police Bomb Unit is assisting the Marlboro PD with a suspicious device left on a bus.

Marlboro Mayor Jon Hornik confirmed that there is police activity involving a NJ Transit Bus on Route 9

Capt. Stephen Jones of the NJSP Public Affairs Unit told MMM that the Arson and Bomb Unit was wrapping up and preparing to leave the scene as of 10:05 a.m.  Jones said that the Marlboro PD is leading the investigation.
