Judge Oxley?
The worst kept secret in Monmouth County politics became news today when Politickernj reported that “Monmouth County GOP Chairman Joe Oxley is poised to leave his chairmanship for a superior court judgeship.”
Politickernj’s story is premature.
“If it happens, it won’t be during this legislative session,” said State Senator Joe Kyrillos, “Joe is an excellent chairman. Monmouth County is important to the party statewide going into 2012 and 2013.”
State Senator Jennifer Beck said she’d heard rumblings about an Oxley judicial nomination but assumed it was a rumor. “Joe has never mentioned an interest in being a judge,” said Beck, “there are three Republican and one Democratic vacancy on the Monmouth Court now. The workload is significant. About 60 lawyers have expressed interest in those positions, but the Chairman is not one of them.”
Rumors of Oxley moving to the Monmouth Vicinage were rampant in the legal community and among GOP politicos the week before Thanksgiving as several people who received calls from the State Police performing a background check on the former sheriff spread the word.
Oxley passed the background check, according to sources. The bar association and the Monmouth Senate delegation still need to give their blessings before Governor Chris Christie will announce the nomination, which must be confirmed by the Senate.
“Nothing is official until the Governor makes his nomination,” Oxley told MMM in November, “as of now, I am completing my term and running for reelection as Chairman.”
Speculation for Oxley’s successor as chairman has centered around State GOP Committeewoman Christine Hanlon, State GOP Treasurer and former Senate President John Bennett, and former Assemblyman Steve Corodemus.
A source close to the former Assemblyman told MMM that Corodemus does not want the position.
Bennett and Hanlon could not be reached for comment.
Jim Giannell, the Kingmaker without a portfolio, told MMM that he won’t be a candidate for chairman should Oxley get benched. Giannell ran for chairman against Adam Puharic in 2006.
Howell Chairman John Costigan, who challenged Oxley in 2010, also said that he would not be seeking the office.
Our new chairperson needs to be one who is strong, willing to break free from the traditional way of “how we do things around here” mentality in order to have a stronger and much more effective party here in Monmouth County.
Unlike most I do not have an optimistic mentality on the future success of our party, I see the Republican Party losing its grasp in the County. There are tons of empty committee seats and the ones that are filled are mostly filled by people who are unwilling to do the job or simply; please excuse my brashness, to old for the current position they hold.
me! me! me! ; )
Tanned, rested and ready: Adam Puharic.
Mayor Fred Rast is the man!
BREAKING NEWS!
Anna Little has just announced that in addition to running for US Senate and US Congress, she is also throwing her hat into the ring for County Chair!
have you taken a look at how many unfilled DEM c.c. seats there are??-we sure can do better, not many people are about giving up their free time and money for the cause any more, but they have zero organization, ground-game/volunteers- if ya don’t count the Pallone-paid union thug-types, for knock and drag…. the only way they win is if the big bucks from Middlesex, Bergen, Hudson bosses, etc., get thrown at us at the end, a la the 3yrs. they got it in a row, to win one year as majority in Freehold, in ’09.. however, any change in leadership means the usual squabbles and discord, and, while I wish Joe and his family well, for the rank and file, it couldn’t happen to us in a worse year, 2012’s Presidential.. nothing like short-lived peace on our part of the earth, and soon-to-be ill-will amongst our men and women!.. going through the whole rigamarole and wheels of change again,is exhausting and disarming to contemplate, to say the least: and you MUST be kidding- Adam was simply the worst county chair in the history of the GOP in this county, bar none, the least experienced, least winning, least money-raising, yet most divisive, and most hostile, ever, and any attempt to bring him back will be met with both fury and defeat, guaranteed!..
Bwahahahaha!!
Ah Jeez…..not this shit again
more of the same sick characters and personal attacks and vendettas that left us losers, and in tons of debt.. great rewind, not!
Hey Exactly,
Nice. Sounds like your ghosts of Christmas Past are haunting you, big time.
Lighten up, why don’tcha? Geez, it’s Christmas week, fer cryin out loud!
I am going to go with Joe Kyrillos. When it happens it will most likely be after the elections in 2012. The county would be in a disarray if both the chairman and the executive director left at the same time.
Christine Hanlon deserves a close look.
Bennett way too much baggage and too many people dont like him.
Coredemus excellent choice if he can be convinced to do it.
intelligent people learn from past mistakes, is all..whomever is picked determines success or failure,period.. it is a huge and thankless task, not something for the faint of heart, inexperienced, or unsuccessful..can’t imagine Kyrillos doing that unpaid and too county-specific job- is too state-focused..Bennett may have some baggage, most people do in the business, but is smart, savvy and can raise money..like Corodemus, but doubt he could/would spend the time..it’s worse than herding cats, with all the egos and squabbles ongoing!..
You gotta be kidding me.
Hey Forwarned,
Before you go calling out The Dogs of War on Christmas Eve, do yourself a favor; go have an eggnog and volunteer for some worthy charity.
You’ll feel better about yourself immediately. I promise.
Bennett smart and savvy. ROFL
Here is my criteria for Chairman:
1. Does not own a business that seeks work from any governing bodies.
2. Can raise funds.
3. Plays reasonably well with others.
Christine Hanlon! I like that a lot.
you can chill..just reminding people how important a chair is.. and, would match ya hour for hour on volunteering any given year: feel just fine about myself, it’s the dopes, egotists and mean people we’ve had to survive that have sounded the drums of war, and consequently, defeat, in the past..a very Merry Christmas to you!-see ya at the convention….
good criteria, very difficult to find.. how about a record of either winning as a candidate, as a successful constant, and/or winning as chair someplace??.. the county’s far too big and fractured and complicated now for “on-the-job,” novice-training..
