Monmouth Poll: Support for legal weed in NJ is high
62% of New Jersey adults support legalizing marijuana, up from 59% last year, according to a Monmouth University Poll released this morning.
Most New Jersey adults (62%) currently support legalizing the possession of small amounts of marijuana for personal use while 32% oppose this. These numbers are in line with the 59% – 37% split recorded in a Monmouth poll last year. However, statewide support for legalization is higher than five years ago when it stood at 48% in favor and 47% opposed. Marijuana legalization receives support from most Democrats (72%) and independents (61%), but less than half of Republicans (47%). By age, support stands at 81% among those 18 to 34 years old and at just over half among those age 35 to 54 (56%) and age 55 or older (53%).
“We find widespread public support for legalizing marijuana, but the devil is in the details. A question mark for some New Jerseyans is whether the state can set up an adequate regulatory system,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute.
Public support is a little softer, but still positive, on a legislative proposal to allow anyone over the age of 21 to purchase small quantities of marijuana for their own personal use from businesses that have been licensed by the state. Half (50%) say this is a good idea while 34% say it is a bad idea. Another 17% are unsure. The number of New Jerseyans who view this proposal as a good idea has jumped 14 points since 2014 when it was 36%, while the number who say it is a bad idea has fallen by 11 points from 45%.
researching how badly this has been going elsewhere, and demanding the greedy taxers in Trenton stop the insanity, in the name of our children, it appears a lot of fellow Jerseyites have thrown in the towel, figuring we can just smoke and zone our way into further oblivion, so we notice less the further deterioration of our state around us. Just keep giving in, folks, this will not end well.
will the end be? I need a firm date.
we see more accidents, child poisonings, disgusting waste, increases in addictions and needed policing and rehab services, and around when all the great new tax revenue gets wasted again , and they run out of things to tax, followed by actual producers getting fed up and leaving, followed by the bills/ programs not getting paid, and then getting declared junk bond status, and bankrupt. But keep puffing away into oblivion, maybe someone else will pay for you, and maybe you won’t notice, or care. Peace out, man…
keep people buying it in the street?
keep you up at night? I see you posted that gem of a comment at 12:01 in the morning. Surely, there must be a Walker, Texas Ranger rerun somewhere on cable. Or do you have Dish? These are the questions I need answered!
Tucker Carlson, one of the smartest pundits on tv, not that it’s any of your business..and, reading articles on the damaging health and societal effects of pot on people. Try it, actually becoming informed of the cons, as well as just going along with the crowd ruining our culture, before the brains get too addled to care. (Hope you never have a family member who uses it as a gateway drug, gets addicted and commits thefts, and winds up being pretty much of a loser, the rest of their life.) -Not all fun, games, and revenue, revenue, revenue, friend..
say I’ve never had someone admit they were watching Tucker Carlson while simultaneously reading anti-pot articles at midnight on a random Monday in February. You, sir, need to get laid.
Your crudeness is both offensive and indicative of the point that our culture is over.
Oh please do explain.
and colleges are turning kids into America- hating, self-loathing, entitled snowflakes. 2. Everyone gets a trophy, so we’re now sore losers who must destroy those who win or support folks we don’t like. 3. We’re in love with celebrity- any kind. 4. All sick, aberrant behaviors are ok. 5. God, faith, reason, respect and prayer are out. 6. We deface, deny, and remove our history from public view. 7. We’re largely a nation of angry, jealous “ victims,” divided by race, class and gender.
8. No one’s personally responsible for their bad choices and actions: it’s someone else’s fault, and they must be given endless chances and little or no punishment. 9. It’s now ok in several states to kill babies at the moment of birth. 10. We’re now owed a basic income, housing, food, healthcare( free needles and shoot- up rooms in some places,) college, jobs, all at others’ expense, no work/ personal ambition needed. 11. We value the needs of illegal entrants ( read, new voters,) over our own needy citizens’. 12. We print ballots, bills, tests, etc. in many languages- no need to assimilate into one common language and loyalty/ purpose as a country. 13. Drugs are fun, great, and harmless: as long as someone else pays/ picks up the slack, when things go awry.
Care to think of any others? This is what the death of a culture and society looks like. We’re there now, and getting worse. Wake up.
you’re a weekly listener of The Political Cesspool. Resist my friend, resist!
is already dead then how can it get worse? Do you actually read the bullshit you put on here? I’m thinking you just copy and paste some other winner’s incoherent ramblings because critical thinking is a skill you sorely lack.
The truth hurts your sensibilities? Long live the Savage Nation!
love Weiner, how surprising. Way to sidestep my question too. If you’re employed full-time, I would be shocked.
you who think you are so smart. Will wait for you to catch up to my decades of full, meaningful employment, community service, and great family and friends.. hope judging others you don’t know, and tearing people down makes you feel SO much bigger, better, and.. taller.
poor little guy can’t take some heat on the internet? Also, what makes you SO sure I don’t know you in real life?
community service? Be a little more specific, lol.
in your zeal to tear apart anyone with differing views they are entitled to have, that you didn’t give any reasons at all why legalizing weed is such a great idea for NJ. Whatever..
where in this article that I ever said I’m in favor of legalizing marijuana. I’ll wait. Oh, and I will also wait for your answer to my question. Those demons in your head must be fieeeeerce.
We’ll wait for you to stop being a childish nudge and present actual arguments regarding the original premise. Not gonna happen. Bye now, and better luck with your own nasty demons.
seriousness, how old are you? Who uses the term nudge as an insult? Maybe I will stop fucking with you, you’re likely in the same age bracket as my grandfathers, and they’ve been dead for decades.
an ignorant, arrogant and disrespectful a. h., but it’s a “ family blog.” Oops.
even say “asshole”? How deep is your repression? Christ…
your self- hatred and dissatisfaction with your that you must go off topic to tear up others? Poor you, boo hoo. Pathetic. Go smoke some weed to feel better, petulant, angry child.
