Maybe it’s just good karma

The Democratic candidate for County Clerk got a boost of sorts today from the Asbury Park Press.

Michael Steinhorn is making an issue out of the fact that the Monmouth GOP won the first ballot position in 30 of the last 33 general elections and that a Republican Clerk was responsible for all thirty drawings.   There is apparently nothing else to write about in the Clerk’s race, because the APP gave Steinhorn free space and an inflammatory headline, Are the Monmouth Republicans cheating?

Ballot positions are chosen in public when two capsules, pictures of which on here on APP,  one with the word “Republican” and the other with the word “Democrat,” are put into a box, shaken up and Bertha Sumick, the Deputy County Clerk in charge of elections picks one.   30 times out of the last 33, the Republican capsule was chosen.  APP quotes two mathematics professors saying that the odds of the happening are 1.5 million to one.  Steinhorn speculates that the capsules have been marked somehow to feel different from each other.

Theoretically, the winning ballot position should be shared 50-50 on a valid random drawing.  Just to test the theory, I flipped a coin 33 times.  It came up heads 22 times and tails 11 times.

County Clerk M. Claire French insists the annual drawings are above board.  She noted that when the Democrats held the office of County Clerk in 1978 and 1979, that the Democrats won the first ballot position in each of those years.

    The way it works is that the words in the capsules are visible. The person doing the drawing merely looks into the container before they make a selection. Simple cheating, typical nonchalant corruption. It works the same way in counties with Dem clerks.

    I believe that the voters are smart enough to know that Mr. Steinhorn is a blowhard, incapable of performing the duties of the County Clerk, and have told him this multiple times before.

    I dont have the article in front of me but I believe it noted in Essex(?) County the D’s won the first line something like 40 of 41 years which would have even higher odds of that ocurring. At any rate, it seems as if there are better ways of doing the drawings for ballot positions which would eliminate any questions of whether it was being conducted fairly.

    In other states (such as NY), the party line (A,B,C,D,1,2,3,4) goes to the high vote tally for the gubernatorial race.

    I like the idea that the party that gets the most votes is the party that gets the first line. That is the voter’s choice. I like it better if that idea goes down to the county level, not just the state level.

    I kinda like that idea as well, but the truth is that people fight for that “first column” because they know people are lazy and don’t do their research on candidates. That’s why “running off line and winning” in a primary is so difficult. People look for the Regular Republican & Regular Democrat line” and vote right down the column.

    I really don’t think it changes the outcome of an election having the first column, except maybe in very close elections. But then so would fraudulent votes in the same circumstances.

    In General Elections, Republicans will look for their candidates and Democrats the same.

    The Independents gotta search, and those that know who they want will find them.

    It’s the undecideds, the fence sitters and those that look for the easiest vote and don’t take the time to COMPLETELY research candidates who scare the hell out of me.

    The “first column” is designed to capture them and maybe that is unfair, but if people did their homework, it shouldn’t be a problem.

    But that’s how we got The Obummbler and people running away from him in 2012 because they know they screwed up in 2008.

    If only they had done their job in 2008 and listened to the research, we would not be in this terrible fix.

    I said most (as in NOT all) of the MEDIA based polls are rigged by oversampling Democrats and under sampling Republicans and Independents in an effort to cause Republican voters to throw in the towel.

    I ALSO SAID, starting around early October, all polls need to show credibility with the polling numbers and start doing REAL polling with unbiased slants.

    In other words, if their final polling does not come close to reality on election day, they look like laughing stocks and no one will use their services.

    Hence, the numbers are tightening around Obummer’s head like a noose. OOOOPS!

    I also believe that Obummer NEVER had such leads because of the biased polls.

    Wimpyboy…if you dont get it by now, I said a long time ago that I respect others on this site and expect the same in return. If someone disrespects me, they will get the same disrespect back….and that applies specifically to you.

    If nothing else, can we agree that Romney should be honost and provide details of the centerpiece of his economic plan? That is not asking too much is it? No matter how you cut it, the reduction in rates he has been talking about for the last year and a half would cost about $5 trillion in future revenue over 10 years. What everyone would like to hear from Romney is specifically (not the usual bs we hear from him, Ryan or his spokespeople) what tax breaks will be eliminated to make up all or a good chunk of the $5 trillion???…thats not asking a lot of someone who wants to be our President. He says some of it will be made up with a growing economy (even though I dont think anyone on the planet believes trickle down works….the only trickling that has ocurred over the last several decades is that the top 2% have gotten a lot richer, the middle class has shrunk or reamined in place and the poorer have gotten poorer.)

    If Romney does win, I just hope its because he is honost with the American people (and he was far from honost in the debate in which his own campaign had to take back several things he said….of course long after people had turned thier tv’s off.)
