Former Ocean County GOP Chairman George Gilmore is continuing the appeals process for his convictions of failing to pay taxes deducted from his employees paychecks to the IRS and for lying on a loan application to Oceansfirst Bank, according to a report at NewJerseyGlobe.

The former attorney will remain free from incarceration during his appeal to the full 14 Judge panel of the Third District Federal Court. A three Judge panel of the Third District upheld Gilmore’s April, 2019 conviction last week.

Gilmore continues to wield political power in Ocean County where he has convinced many Republicans that his convictions will be overturned and and that he will never serve prison time. He has been sentenced to 366 days in federal prison.

The former Chairman is widely created with delivering the Ocean County lines to U.S. Senate candidate Hirsch Singh and Congressional candidate David Richter at the Ocean GOP convention last spring. Ocean County’s Republican screening committee had endorsed Rik Mehta for Senate and Kate Gibbs for Congress.

Gilmore is expected to support NJ GOP Chairman Doug Steinhardt for the 2021 Republican gubernatorial nomination next year.

There is also speculation that President Trump may pardon Gilmore. Bill Stepien, the President’s campaign manager, is close to Gilmore and is an advisor to Steinhardt.
