Transgender Male Sues Amazon For Pregnancy Discrimination
A pregnant person who identifies as a male is suing Amazon for pregnancy discrimination and gender-identity discrimination, according to a report at New Jersey Law.
Shaun Simmons alleges that the pregnancy was disclosed to other employees who offered congratulations and questioned Shaun’s use of the mens room due to the pregnancy.
Simmons complains of being demoted, assigned to tasks involving heavy lifting, being refused a transfer to another facility and being place on paid leave until the completion of the pregnancy.
Simmons is seeking reinstatement of employment as well as back pay and front pay.
Amazon moved the suit from NJ Superior Court in Mercer County to federal Court in Trenton on the grounds that the parties reside in different states and that Simmons is seeking more than $75,000.
