Richter wins in Ocean County
David Richter defeated Kate Gibbs, 68-60, at the Ocean County GOP nominating convention on Wednesday evening, securing a favorable ballot position in the Republican primary for the right to take on Congressman Andy Kim in the Ocean portion of the 3rd Congressional District.
Gibbs won the support of the Burlington GOP at a convention last December. The two will now face off in what could be an ugly primary campaign.
“I just want to thank Chairman Holman, the entire Ocean County Republican Organization, every supporter,” Richter said after his victory was announced. “I just want to thank all of you for just a fantastic night,” Richter told the assembled crowd. “As you’ve learned, I’m a fighter, and I don’t mind uphill battles. I’m going to take this fight all the way to November. We’re going to take Andy Kim and make him a one-term congressman, and we’re going to take the gavel out of Nancy Pelosi’s hand come January.”
Richter pledged to earn the support of the delegates who voted for Gibbs.
Who supports Gibbs, yes; sadly this will be an ugly primary fight.
While Richter may not be the perfect candidate, I just don’t understand why people can’t see how flawed Gibbs is.
Republicans just can’t put up candidates with baggage such as Gibbs has. Hey, I’m all for forgiveness and second chances.
But we are talking about taking back the House but Gibbs offers Kim too many softballs to hit out of the park trying to tear her down.
