Who wears pants during a full body massage?

By Art Gallagher

Wei Wang, a massage therapist from Ocean Township, has been in custody at the Monmouth County Jail since Friday for putting his hands down the pants of a female client during a “full body massage,” according the Asbury Park Press.

There has to be more to this story than has made the paper.

Wang was charged with criminal sexual contact.  His bail was set at $5000.

Alas, this is something that does happen in this field, as i know from my 25 years of working as a licensed MTh. Two observations: clients should stop any massage the second something is going on that does not feel right–(long before the hand went down her pants). Secondly, i work with a very gifted, highly qualified bodyworker for deep tissue work-she on occasion must reach under an undergarment to do her work–but never for an instant have i felt violated.
Advice? Stick with the professionals-therapists should be licensed/certified–ask for their credentials. Trust your instincts-nothing should be inappropriate, start to finish.
For our side: we are the Healthcare practitioners who receive the phone calls fishing to find out the scope of our work….”MassageAnd—-“? Would a chiropractor, RN, or MD field such phone calls? You learn as you go. And learn to never allow anyone in your office about whom you have any reservations.
Tricky (interesting, rewarding!) career–on the upside you are God’s healing hands. On the downside, you run into all kinds. Sex is great–but does not belong anywhere in the Massage Therapy profession.
i look forward to hearing others’ comments–interesting subject here, Art. i wonder: do men have a different response than women?

    Lois,

I suspect so. I doubt a man would be wearing pants during a massage. If a man were wearing pants, I doubt his first instinct would be to call the police if Mr. Wang put his hands down his pants.

I doubt a man’s first reaction would be to call the police if Ms. Wang put her hands down his pants either.

There would be different reactions, but neither would include calling the police.

Now, if I am wrong about that and a male client did call the police because Mr. Wang put his hands down his pants, I wonder if the police would respond differently than they did in this case.

Art is right. If it was pants — and not just underpants or panties — the story just doesn’t sound right. If it was underwear, that is indeed quite a different story from what most people consider a full body massage.

one could wonder about a whole lot of things from the way the article was written. We’ve veered into ‘pants on/pants off,’ and ‘who would or would not call the police’.

lodged in jail? $5000 bail?? Sounds like a serious allegation/something that was taken seriously to me. i as a female am most solicitous of the vulnerability of women… “forced” his hand…? Yikes.

On the male side, men might have recalled instances of men being set up/taken advantage of—-how a man’s whole life can be ruined by a woman’s charges…

Since the subject was “Massage” (near and dear to my heart) i was curious what kinds of comments Art’s article might engender. Since not many, perhaps because nowadays massage is almost a household word?
