Chris Smith’s “No Federal Funding For Abortion” Bill Passes The House

By Art Gallagher

H.R. 3, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, championed by Congressman Chris Smith, passed the House of Representatives this week, 251-175.  All Republicans in the House and 16 Democrats voted for the bill’s passage.

The bill would make permanent the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal funding of abortion through Medicaid and other federal programs.  Additionally “indirect subsidies” like tax credits and deductions for abortions, insurance premiums on policies that cover abortion, and the use of tax-exempt savings plans to pay for abortion, are prohibited by the measure.

The bill has less of a chance to pass the Democratically controlled Senate than a African American or Hispanic fetus has of surviving its mother’s visit to a Planned Parenthood clinic.

Breaking news, white ladies have abortions too. Funny Chris Smith doesn’t want to fund anything that takes life but doesn’t mind funding the Iraq War which has taken thousands of innocent lives of civilians. But then folks like you are very enamored of hispanic and african american fetuses BEFORE they exit the womb. Then they magically become the next generation of Reagan’s welfare queens in cadillacs. The hypocrisy knows no bounds.

    Breaking news, Janice,

    White ladies get welfare too.

I’m strongly pro-choice (and a white woman) and believe that whether or not to terminate a pregnancy is no one’s business but my own. That being said, accepting that responsibility also means paying for it. You can’t have it both ways folks.

Dems have killed more inner city children than all the wars combined. There are two choices, pro-life or pro-death, l choose to be pro-life.
And last l checked we were never attacked by radical infants,

Last time I checked, the decision to end a pregnancy belonged to the woman, not a political party.
I suppose that favoring the death penalty and a woman’s right to decide what to do with her own body is a double death dealing whammy in some people’s books, but I can live with that.
Brain’s last statement equating jihad and babies is preposterous and doesn’t relate to Art’s blog or ensuing comments in any way.

What a classy guy you are Brian. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that you’re the bull horn happy guy who supported the fiscally inept, one- trick- pony social issue Little campaign.
It’s nice to see that you’ve finally embraced spell check. Next time you type a snarky comment, perhaps you should have someone check your grammar. (There’s supposed to be a period or semi colon after “you”)
    Have a lovely day!

Thanks, Art, for writing about this issue. I am pro-life. Abortion is wrong; capital punishment is wrong.

Jgirl, I see that you claim to be “pro-choice” (e.g., pro-abortion). Please do tell us: When, PRECISELY, does life begin? When — again, PRECISELY — does that miracle of life take place? If life doesn’t begin at conception, when, PRECISELY does it begin? (2 seconds before the umbilical cord is cut?) If not at conception, when — again, please be PRECISE — does life begin? At what point does a child/fetus (aka “that which is in a pregnant woman’s uterus”) become a human being entitled to the full protection of the law that you and I currently enjoy?

Abortion is NEVER an appropriate “choice.” Abortion is ALWAYS the murder of a child. Abortion ALWAYS ends a human life. Shame on you!
