Suddenly Somebody Cares About LD 13
New Jersey Democrats are suddenly taking an interest in the 13th legislative district according to a normally reliable source familiar with the state wide campaign.
Word is that U.S. Senator Bob Menendezis feeling a bit vulnerable with his weak showing in the FDU poll released this morning and with the possibility that Governor Chris Christie could be the Presidential candidate next year when needs Obama coattails to get reelected. He wants the Monmouth Democrats to rough up Senator Joe Kyrillos and make him spend some money.
Assembly Majority Leader Joe Cryan want to take a run at Declan O’Scanlon, if not to beat him this time, to at least weaken him for a future contest against Marlboro Mayor Jon Hornick. Cryan will be in the district raising money twice in the next two weeks.
Unless I’ve been fed misinformation, which usually doesn’t start until the last two weeks of the campaign, expect 2 or 3 negative mailers on behalf of the 13th district Democrats.
Sorry, I call BS on this one. Kyrillos and O’Scanlon are so safe it’s silly. The three nobodies running against them have no chance.
Hornik has been flopping out west lately as well. He may be a future candidate, but after early promise, he has fizzled. Two years from now he will be a distant memory, like the last person that jumped from Marlboro to the legislature. Oh, right. There wasn’t one.
Jon Hornik can raise 1 million dollars if he wants to – he will win re-election this year with 70% of the vote in what is supported to be a Republican town.
A ticket in 2013 with Hornik for Senate and a wide crop of assembly candidates (Amy Mallet, Fair Haven), Little Silver Councilman Daniel O’Hern, former Middletown Committeeman Sean Byrnes, former Oceanport Mayor Gordon Gemma, Hazlet Township Committeeman Joe Marques, Sea Bright Councilwoman Dina, Long, former Keyport Mayor Bob Bergen.
There are A LOT of strong candidates.
Watch the Hornik ticket go a million dollars against LD13 Reps in 2013
No this is accurate, why else would Cryan be coming down? He wouldn’t be coming into a district if there wasn’t a chance, he doesen’t just go anywhere. O’Scanlon is vulnerable.
Yeah, Joe Cryan is a draw? LOL. 8 our of 10 Dem voters don’t know who he is.
Mallet will lose the Freeholder race, hornik will NOT get 70%, and all those others are nobodies.
Total wishful thinking. Good luck!!
What about Handlin? She is so weak nobody even bothers to talk about her!
When I mentioned in the spring to Jon Hornik that there’s no Dem candidate for LD13 Senate (because they failed to file in time, and had to do a write-in campaign), he seemed to not even be aware of that.
“and another thing”.. she’s, in reality, about as RINO as one can get, aloof, holier-than-thou on the “ethics” moves, and very self-serving..also,very lucky, to have had all those workers help her get elected to three offices, for so long..and yes, they can nip at 13, but they’ll all be safe, at least for this year..
This information is correct and the Democrats objective is not to win but weaken the republicans.
Bob Bergen? You are out in left field. I hear he is under investigation in Keyport for misappropriation of HUD money.
Art hit the nail on the head. The ONLY reason Cryan is coming down to LD 13 is because Menendez is probably making him because he knows if Christie by chance gets into this race, Kyrillos is running, and will then have a better shot of winning against Menendez.
Declan is not a “weak” candidate and can afford to get “roughed” up a little bit. The new 13th district is a district that if Republicans actually campaigned to loose, it still would be hard.
Amy Handlin also has a strong following. Silent, but strong. Her experience as a Middletown Township Committeewoman, Monmouth County Freeholder, and now an Assemblywoman, she is the TOP vote getter.
Cryan is simply doing Menendez’s dirty work. Poor little Bobby is scared that someone has the audacity to challenge him for HIS Senate seat, he’s being a little girl about it!
And btw, Hornik, talk about a do nothing I’ll say anything to get elected Mayor, looks like he has a race this year. I’ve been hearing some good things about the Republicans they have challenging him.
Mr. Gallagher,
Aberdeen Township does not have to be reliably democrat on the municipal level, Chris Christie and Anna Little won here. If the local candidates could get a little more $$ support they could win. The Incumbent Democrat slate is very beatable this year.
The solution is you:
Can you convince some of your supporters to believe in us? If you can we will win. I know we can do this with your help.
Please help bring responsible government back to Aberdeen, our neighbors deserve it !
Our Message, Our Strategy , Our work + Your Support = Victory for all of us!
Please make your check out to “Aberdeen Republicans 2011” and mail to P. O. Box 280, Aberdeen, NJ 07747.

…In the meantime a full slate of Constitutional candidates (1-Sen/2-Assembly) are running in 13. They are quietly and actively working on the ground frequently. They win supporters wherever they go, which is everywhere………
