New Jersey Has Spent Only a Fraction of $2.4B Federal COVID-19 Aid, Legislative Sources Say

While Gov. Phil Murphy complained Wednesday about the latest federal stimulus proposal from Senate Republicans and its lack of funding for states, New Jersey has spent less than 3% of the almost $2.4 billion it has received from the federal government to cover general needs created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Murphy to announce commercial rent relief program in Long Branch

Governor Phil Murphy will be in Long Branch on Thursday to announce a rent relief program for New Jersey businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.

The program will be funded by federal CARES Act funds, MMM has learned.

Looks like Trump is returning to N.J. this weekend

President Donald Trump is preparing to visit his Bedminster golf club for the first time in more than a month.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a temporary flight restriction for the airspace around his golf club from Friday to Sunday.

Those announcements accurately have forecast Trump’s getaways to Bedminster since he became president, but he has cancelled two visits at the last minute.

Christie criticizes Murphy for not doing enough for N.J. small businesses as he raises $800K in donations for his nonprofit

Former Gov. Chris Christie has raised close to $800,000 in committed funding for a nonprofit he started with his wife that gives $3,000 forgivable loans to small businesses struggling to remain open amid the coronavirus outbreak, the couple said Tuesday.

Christie and former First Lady Mary Pat Christie say they’ve received more than 3,000 applications from small businesses since they launched the nonprofit last month. The group, the New Jersey 30-Day Fund, has approved funding for 120 businesses from the more than 3,000 they’ve received, they said.

It’s official: No fans at Giants, Jets and Rutgers football games because of coronavirus

The Giants and Jets will play their 2020 home games at MetLife Stadium without fans, NJ Advance Media has learned, after Gov. Murphy told the teams that his statewide limit of 500 people at outdoor gatherings would apply to the local NFL teams.

Anti-feminist lawyer believed to be Salas shooter killed himself

Roy Den Hollander, a self described “anti-feminist lawyer” is the suspect in the shooting at U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas’s North Brunswick home on Sunday night.

Hollander’s body was found in Sullivan County, NY on Monday with an apparent self-inflicted gun wound, according to media reports.

The death rate from the coronavirus in New Jersey nursing homes is the country’s highest.

Nearly 6,700 nursing home residents have died in the pandemic and the numbers continue to climb as COVID-19 has run rampant in nursing homes.

This month, more than half of the COVID-19 deaths have been nursing home residents, according to the Department of Health, up from about 40% in the two months since NJ Advance Media published an investigation into the failures and missteps into the state’s response to the deadly pandemic.
