If you followed our coverage of Josh Welle while he was running for congress last year, you already know that he is a shameless weirdo who suffers from delusions of grandeur.
The stunt Welle pulled in Rumson last weekend is downright bizarre. He held a party in his neighbor’s backyard without her permission. Kathleen Patchell Manning returned home from church to find that Welle and his guests had set up a party with tables, chairs, grills and a badminton net while she was worshiping. Manning’s trampoline was moved within her property to be closer to the Welle action.

Freeholder Director Tom Arnone
I hope everyone is having a great summer! I cannot believe we’re just a few weeks away from Labor Day!
The Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering has been extremely busy this summer working on numerous projects throughout the County. As liaison to this department, I am happy to report on the status of several of these projects.
At our August 7th Freeholder Meeting, the Board awarded a $9.2 million contract to Hall Building Corp. to complete interior renovations to the Seaview Building, a former commercial building the County owns next to the Seaview Square Mall. This $9.2 million award is a $2.3 million savings to the County and 22% less than we anticipated. Read the rest of this entry »

Tonight in New Jersey, children will go to bed hungry. Contrary to popular notions about hunger in America, most are not homeless. In fact, most New Jersey families that struggle to put food on the table live in households that have at least one working adult.
In Monmouth County, where I live, and in neighboring Ocean County, one in ten residents don’t know where their next meal will come from, let alone whether if it will be nutritious. One in seven of those ten are children. The anxiety and fear of not knowing is what social services agencies call “food insecurity.”
That is why I am beginning a new chapter in my life this week: leading the effort to end hunger in our community as Chief Executive Officer of Fulfill, formerly the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Fulfill aims to not only help our neighbors experiencing food insecurity today, but to provide them with the resources to become self-sufficient for tomorrow. I am excited join a team of 50 employees and 1,400 volunteers whose mission is to “shorten the line” of those in our communities who are hungry.

Aseemblywoman Serena DiMaso and Senator Declan O’Scanlon
With three weeks left in the summer tourist season Governor Phil Murphy finally signed legislation repealing the tax and surcharge of Jersey Shore short term summer rentals.
Monmouth County legislators Senator Declan O’Scanlon and Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso say Murphy’s action today is “too little, too late.”
“The Governor made the right call in repealing this short-term rental tax–and we acknowledge that–however it comes way too late,” said O’Scanlon. “We are in August at this point, summer is nearly over and most of the damage of this ill-conceived aspect of this tax has been done. The Governor and his policy folks need to recognize when something is emergent and do their homework up front, so they’re ready to take action the minute such bills land on his desk. This was a total failure of administrative planning and it likely, needlessly, cost the New Jersey economy millions of dollars.” Read the rest of this entry »

Sheriff Shaun Golden announced that enrollment is open for the annual Citizens Police Academy/Law Enforcement Mini Academy.
A prerequisite to the VISCOMP (Volunteers in Sheriff’s Community Programs), the course is designed to foster and promote an understanding by citizens in Monmouth County of the services offered and challenges facing the law enforcement agencies in the county. It is envisioned that graduates of the Citizen Police Academy will gain awareness and appreciation of the services provided by these agencies and will become “goodwill ambassadors” for the law enforcement and public safety community.

Congressman Chris Smith and Freeholder Gerry Scharfenberger at the 2016 9/11 remembrance in Middletown
Congressman Chris Smith is running for 21st term in the House of Representatives next year and would be content to run another 4-5 times, according to a interview he had with NJGlobe.
“I’ve never been more enthusiastic about a job in my life,” Smith said. “I hope to have another decade here. I love it that much.”
Smith was responding to rumors that he would retire in 2020. In 2018, MoveOn.Org had a fundraising campaign based upon their lie that the Dean of the New Jersey delegation was retiring.
“It’s a type of smear,” Smith told NJGlobe of the retirement rumors. “It’s factually untrue. It’s unethical.”
