Murphy expands COVID-19 Call Center Options

Press Release

Governor Phil Murphy, the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management, the New Jersey Department of Health, and the United Ways of New Jersey announced today that NJ 211 has been activated to help handle COVID-19 related calls from New Jersey residents.

All residents with questions or concerns about COVID-19 and resources available to them can call 2-1-1. NJ 211 is New Jersey’s statewide, comprehensive, information and referral service operated by United Ways of New Jersey. Read the rest of this entry »

Murphy asks Trump for Military and Army Corp Assistance To Build Hospitals

NJ Gov Phil Murphy

Stating that New Jersey faces a potential hospital bed shortage of anywhere from 123,000 to 313,000 sometime between May and October, and that there could be a critical care bed shortage of 2000 within the next two weeks,  New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy wrote to President Donald Trump on Tuesday to request that the federal government provide Military and U.S. Army Corp of Engineers assistance in expanding the state’s hospital and intensive care unit capacity.

Murphy wrote that failing to expand NJ’s medical capacity could results in medical professionals being “forced the make the agonizing decisions the world has seen in Northern Italy–they will have no choice but to deny lifesaving care, including ventilators to those in need of it.”

N.J. to mobilize National Guard in coronavirus fight, Gov. Murphy says

Gov. Phil Murphy announced Monday he’s mobilizing New Jersey’s National Guard to assist in the state’s effort to combat the spread of the coronavirus. Murphy said during a news conference in Trenton that the Guard will “assist in our efforts in anyway necessary.”

The governor made the announcement as he outlined a number of new restrictions that will severely reshape life in New Jersey for the foreseeable future in the effort to mitigate the outbreak.

The tumor Murphy had removed was cancerous, governor’s office says

The tumor Gov. Phil Murphy had surgically removed from his kidney earlier this month was deemed to be cancerous, his office told NJ Advance Media.

Tests showed it is clear cell renal cell cancer, the governor’s office said. It’s not surprising news given there was more than a 90 percent chance ahead of surgery that it would be malignant.

People with kidney cancer that has not spread beyond the organ have a 93 percent chance of surviving at the five-year mark. Murphy isn’t expected to undergo any further treatment at this time other than having bloodwork done in three months and a CT scan in six mon… Read the rest of this entry »

All New Jersey public schools will be ordered on Monday to close because of coronavirus, governor says

Gov. Phil Murphy said he expects to announce Monday that New Jersey will order all of its public schools be shut down until further notice to minimize exposure to the coronavirus.

Murphy said during a telephone briefing with reporters Sunday that an “extended statewide school shutdown is imminent” and will likely be announced at a news conference Monday.

The state will communicate with school officials and other leaders through Monday morning to “ensure a singular message,” the governor said.

NJ Health Commissioner: A family gathering in Monmouth County led to one COVID-19 death and several positive tests

New Jersey Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said that a family gathering has resulted in one Monmouth County death from COVID-19 and several positive tests for the virus.  The women who died at CentreState Medical Center on Thursday, was related to a sibling of the Bergen County man who died earlier last week.
