Job Fair At Brookdale on Friday

The Monmouth County Board of Freeholders, in partnership with the Monmouth-Ocean Development Council, Brookdale Community College, and the State of New Jersey, are hosting a job fair at Brookdale’s Lincroft campus on Friday, September 29, from 10am till 1pm, Freeholder Serena DiMaso, Esq. announced today.

“Top employers from throughout the Monmouth County area will be participating and are looking to hire qualified candidates,” said DiMaso, liaison to the County’s Division of Workforce Development.  “Job fairs are one of the ways the County directly helps residents while also working to strengthen our businesses.” Read the rest of this entry »

Monmouth County Leaders Condemn Local Hate Speech

The Republican leaders of Monmouth County Government issued the following statement regarding the anti-Semitic and racist flyers posted in Asbury Park last weekend, as reported by The Asbury Park Press:

“It has come to our attention that racist, anti-Semitic, and hateful flyers were recently posted in the City of Asbury Park. Racism, anti-Semitism, bigotry, discrimination, or any type of hate have no place in Monmouth County, New Jersey.  Such conduct and speech is not consistent with our culture. We are a diverse county with people of all races and religions living together in harmony. These flyers do not reflect the reality of our communities.

Freeholders, Legislature Honor Bob Burlew In Union Beach

The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the New Jersey State Legislature honored Bob Burlew, the recently retired code enforcement and construction official for Union Beach and Keyport, at the Freeholders regular meeting which was held in Union Beach last evening.

Burlew is a real life hero to thousands of Bayshore residents who suffered devastating losses in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. His compassion, commitment and encyclopedic knowledge of the government’s byzantine recovery regulations has eased the burden for many throughout the years long rebuilding process.

Brookdale Community College celebrates 50 years

LINCROFT – Brookdale Community College celebrated its 50th anniversary on Tuesday with a birthday cake at the College of Visual Arts among well-wishers, County officials, and members of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), whose members were among the strongest advocates for a community college in Monmouth County half a century ago.

Dr. David Stout, interim president of Brookdale, led the brief program that included Freeholder Director Lillian Burry and freeholders John Curley and Serena DiMasa as well as Middletown Mayor Gerald Scharfenberger presenting resolutions proclaiming July 18, 2017 as Brookdale Community College Day throughout Monmouth County and in Middletown.  Stout presented framed copies of the original Monmouth County resolution establishing the community collegeto the freeholders and representatives of AAUW.

“The college today is an outgrowth of what came before us,” said Stout, who served as emcee for the birthday party program. “The history of Brookdale reveals that the college has its roots in the community. It is a true community college, in every sense of the word.”

Freeholders Kickoff Monmouth County Tourism Season

BRADLEY BEACH, NJ –Overlooking the beach and breaking surf, the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and local civic leaders outlined their picture of the 2017 summer tourism season and unveiled a new county tourism logo on the Bradley Beach promenade.

“Monmouth County is open for business and ready for Summer!,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the County’s Tourism and Economic Development divisions. “Last weekend’s New Jersey Seafood Festival in Belmar was a great success for the businesses and the food purveyors. We are expecting another solid year for tourism for the rest of the county and the County Tourism Office has been working diligently to connect with potential visitors and let them know that their vacation plans should include Monmouth County.”

DiMaso: Deadline to file for SBA Disaster Loans Is June 6

Freeholder Serena DiMaso is reminding Monmouth County small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, and non-profits impacted by freeze conditions,  excessive heat and drought between April 1 and Sept. 19, 2016 that the deadline to apply for economic injury disaster loans from the federal Small Business Administration in June 6, 2017.

“Monmouth County is among the 18 New Jersey counties impacted by the mid-2016 disaster declaration,” said Freeholder Serena DiMaso, Esq. liaison to the County’s division of Emergency Management. “I encourage our qualified, small businesses to consider applying for a low-interest working capital loans through the SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan program.”

It has been an eventful few weeks here in Monmouth County. From officially launching a countywide brand to hosting a shared services summit, we certainly have been keeping busy.

I’m proud to announce that after years of hard work, determination and great coordination, we officially launched the Grown in Monmouth brand and logo during a recent event with Saker ShopRites and Davino Greenhouses in Howell.

The mission of the Grown in Monmouth brand is to help retain and grow our County’s vibrant agricultural industry, while showcasing locally grown produce and vegetation. Through this initiative, we will work to connect County growers with residential and commercial consumers, as well as provide business skills and assistance to the County’s agricultural community, among other goals.

Monmouth Freeholders Budget Below 2006 Spending Levels

The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders have introduced a budget for 2017 that is $24.6 million lower than the 2016 budget and $11.8 million lower than 2006 spending.

The $445,250,000.00 spending plan will be the subject of public hearings on Thursday, March 9 at the Freeholders’ meeting to be held at the Monmouth County Library on Symmes Drive in Manalapan and on Thursday March 23 at the Monmouth County Library Eastern Branch at 1001 Rt. 35 North in Shrewsbury.  Both meetings are scheduled for 5 p.m.

The County’s property tax levy is budgeted to be $302,475,000, the same amount it has been for 6 of the last 7 years.

Arnone Endorses O’Scanlon in LD 13 Senate Race

Freeholder Tom Arnone has endorsed Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon to replace Senator Joe Kyrillos in the upper house of the legislature next year.

“I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Assemblyman O’Scanlon with our shared goal to maintain the high quality of life our residents deserve.” Arnone said. “Serving as the Assembly Republican Budget Officer since 2012, he has consistently made fiscally responsible decisions on behalf of our constituents. Assemblyman O’Scanlon will serve as a tremendous asset and voice for Monmouth County against the special interest groups in Trenton, and I look forward to continuing to work together to ensure our municipalities are being fairly represented. As such, I am proud to endorse Assemblyman O’Scanlon in his bid to replace Senator Kyrillos. He will certainly have big shoes to fill, but I am confident he will serve us well.”

Monmouth County Road Crews Are Prepared For Snow

Monmouth County’s Public Works crews are prepared for the anticipated snow storm and the impact it will have on the 1000 lane miles of roads they maintain, according to an announcement by Freeholders Tom Arnone and Serena DiMaso.

“The County’s snow room will open this evening and we will monitor the storm’s progress,” said Arnone, liaison to the County’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. “Our process helps us manage the personnel needed at the County’s ten highway districts and dispatch crews as needed. We have 135 trucks outfitted with spreading and plowing capabilities.”
