Congressman Chris Smith’s Statement Regarding President Trump’s Announcement On Ending The Shutdown

“I welcome the President’s announcement. We need to immediately restore essential government functions—which I have repeatedly voted to do in recent weeks—while allowing more time to negotiate for funding to secure our border, which I voted for in December.

“In 2006, I and other members from both parties in Congress—including then-Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton—voted for the Secure Fence Act to authorize a physical barrier where applicable on our Southern border. The bill became law but was never adequately implemented, and by neglecting for years to build a border wall, we have placed a greater burden on the safety of our border security personnel and put undue stress on a primary function of government—keeping our citizens safe.

Congressman Smith: Reports that he voted against the wall are inaccurate

In a phone interview with MMM this morning, Congressman Chris Smith, R-NJ 4, said that published reports by New Jersey Globe and SaveJersey claiming that he voted with Democrats to reopen the federal government without funding a wall for our southern border are incomplete and inaccurate.

“I am a strong supporter of securing our southern border, including the wall–I voted for $5.7 billion for the wall in December-– and have been throughout my career,” Smith said.  “The bill I voted for yesterday, H J Res 1, would fund the only Department of Homeland Security and only until February 9.”

The world must stand against China’s war on religion

By Congressman Chris Smith

Mihrigul Tursun said she pleaded with God to end her life as her Chinese jailers increased the electrical currents coursing through her body. Tursun, a Muslim Uighur whose escape led her to the United States in September, broke down weeping at a Nov. 28 congressional hearing as she recounted her experience in one of China’s infamous political “ re-education centers.”

It is an appalling story but one that is all too familiar as existential threats to religious freedom rise in President Xi Jinping’s China. The world can’t ignore what’s happening there. We must all stand up and oppose these human rights violations.

The ruling Chinese Communist Party has undertaken the most comprehensive attempt to manipulate and control — or destroy — religious communities since Chairman Mao Zedong made the eradication of religion a goal of his disastrous Cultural Revolution half a century ago. Now Xi, apparently fearing the power of independent religious belief as a challenge the Communist Party’s legitimacy, is trying to radically transform religion into the party’s servant, employing a draconian policy known as sinicization.

Under sinicization, all religions and believers must comport with and aggressively promote communist ideology — or else.

On the Passing of President George H.W. Bush

By Congressman Chris Smith

President Bush was not only a hero of World War II—brave, tenacious fearless and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism under fire—but he was also an extraordinary family man who deeply loved his wife Barbara and family and spent his entire public life pursuing peace and an end to the cold war.  He inspired selfless public service—a thousand points of light—and generosity and compassion for others, especially those in need.   As both President and Vice President, he visited my district and the biggest takeaway from those experiences as well as working with him in Washington was how gracious and kind and humble he was.  Despite being the most powerful political leader on earth, he regarded the issues and solutions to problems as far more important than himself—truly amazing.

Welle does not vote for Pelosi

Josh Welle is full of surprises

Josh Welle did not vote for Nancy Pelosi to become the next Speaker of the House yesterday because he wasn’t invited to the Democrat Caucus meeting in Washington.

Since losing to Congressman Chris Smith on November 6, the sanctimonious semen has been spotted at Alice’s Kitchen in Sea Bright and at the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City during the NJ League of Municipalities Convention where he and his former campaign staffers got into some late night drunken texting with Jim Keady, the front runner for the 2020 Democrat nomination in CD-4.
