Leonard J. Mazzarisi, III, 29, former of Burgandy Rd in Holmdel is charged with two counts of second degree Aggravated Arson, second degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, third degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and third degree Criminal Mischief, according to an announcement by Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
Mazzarisi was arrested at a hotel in Fredericksburg, Virginia on May 30, 2018 on outstanding warrants on these charges and held in the custody of the Rappahannock Regional Jail in Stafford, Virginia until he was extradited back to New Jersey on June 12, 2018. He is currently held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold, pending his detention hearing on Tuesday, June 29.
He is accused of setting fire to the Neuhaus Realty Agency office at 51 Main Street in the township on August 19, 2017 and again on January 27, 2018. Read the rest of this entry »

Nicholas Joyce, 19, a volunteer Fair Haven firefighter, was charged with second degree Aggravated Arson on Saturday after an investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Fair Haven Police Department indicated that he started a shed fire behind the United Methodist Church on Friday afternoon, according to an announcement by Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni.

Sean Powers, a twenty-two year old Middletown volunteer firefighter has been charged with starting the fire that left him with critical burn injuries. William Rohweder, 23 of Middletown was also charged with arson of an abandoned barn in a residential area. The fire at 251 Monmouth Ave was reported to Middletown authorities on Saturday morning at 5:48 AM. Powers’ address is 260 Monmouth Ave.
According to a statement from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, both young men have been charged with one count of second degree Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Arson, one count of second degree Aggravated Arson and one count of third degree Aggravated Assault.
Because of his status as a volunteer firefighter, Powers has also been charged with Official Misconduct, an offense that carries a maximum prison term of ten years and a minimum period of parole ineligibility of five years, upon conviction.
Powers is in critical but stable condition at The Burn Center at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. Judge Honora O’Brien Kilgallen set Powers bail as R. O. R. (Released On Recognizance) so long as he remains in an in-patient. Upon his release from The Burn Center, his bail will be reviewed.

Ronald Schroeder, 43 of Union Beach, was charged with second degree Aggravated Arson today for allegedly setting fire inside the lounge of Hazlet First Aid Unit 1 Building at 33 Leocadia Court on Sunday, according to Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
The fire was reported at 5:07 pm on Sunday. Firefighters from the West Keansburg and North Centerville Fire Departments extinguished the blaze with assistance from Union Beach and Matawan firefighters. An investigation determined that the fire was set intentionally, that Schroeder was the only person in building and that he was seen fleeing the building. He returned while firefighters were still on the scene.
Schroeder is a probationary member of the First Aid Squad, having volunteered a short time ago. He was arrested by the Hazlet Police and is in custody at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold. His bail is $100,000 with not 10% option and is prohibited from returning to the building if his bail is posted.
