FDU Public Mind Poll: New Jersey’s Government Is Inept

Voters Give Christie, Legislature low marks. No confidence in government impacting addiction crisis, State is on the wrong track

The vast majority of New Jersey voters, 74%, think individuals and families should be most responsible for ensuring that those seeking treatment for alcohol and drug treatment find what they need, according to a Fairleigh Dickinson University Public Mind Poll released this morning. 22% think government should be most responsible for getting addicts help.

Those who favor personal and family responsibility over government intervention include 64% of Democrats, 82% of Independents and 87% of Republicans.  60% said the know someone personally who is or was addicted to alcohol or drugs.  70% said they know someone who has died as a result of addiction.

Scammers threaten small business owners with power shut off

Scammers are once again targeting Monmouth County small businesses by posing as representatives of JCP&L and threatening to shut off their power unless immediate payment is made via a pre-paid debit card, Green Dot card, MoneyPak card or gift card, announced Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

Recent targets have included a salon,  gym and and deli. The scam follows a line of fear and intimidation: you are advised you are past due on a bill, you are threatened with having your power shut-off, and you are given the opportunity to “pay” your bill within a brief period of time to avoid any embarrassment or work stoppages.

Break out crowd of 800+ for Golden’s Starry Night

Over 800 enthusiastic supporters gathered at the Eagles Oaks Golf and Country Club in Farmingdale on Friday night to celebrate Sheriff Shaun Golden’s 6th Annual Starry Night Gala.

“Unbelievable, phenomenal energy,” was the consistent comment of those in attendance who were celebrating Golden’s success in leading the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office and the Monmouth GOP.

Long Branch man targeted young girls on their way home from school, cops say

Handlin raises $4K for LD 13 Senate race

Assemblywoman Amy Handlin

Assemblywoman Amy Handlin raised $4,075 for her campaign to replace Senator Joe Kyrillos in the State Senate during the quarter that ended December 31, 2016, according to her latest filing with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission.  The amount almost doubles what she has raised since her last election in 2015.  Her total raised for the cycle is $8,175.

Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon, Handlin’s district mate who is also contending for Kyrillos’s seat in the upper chamber of the legislature, raised $121,075 for his campaign during the same period.

Keansburg Mother Charged With Throwing 6 Month Old At Father

The Keansburg Police Department charged Nicole Robbolino. 32, of Briarwood Avenue, with one count of Assault and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child on Tuesday after an investigation revealed that Robbolino threw a child safety seat containing her six month old son at her boyfriend–the father of the child.  The baby suffered a mild head injury.

According to a statement issued by the Police Department, officers where dispatched to the scene for a report that a 5 year old female that had sustained a hot water burn to her face.  The officers learned that the girl bumped into a stove, causing hot water to splash onto her face. She was treated on the scene by officers and Keansburg EMS and transported to Bayshore Hospital.

The Jersey Report Delivers “Drudge-Style” News

I’m a news hunter—by training and temperament. I’m always in search of “quality content” on the internet. It’s not easy to find.

I’ve been a huge fan of the Drudge Report website for a long time. It’s been my go-to website for news for over 20 years now. And I’ve even passed the habit down to my children. My son and daughter both tell me they visit a lot for their news.

For a frequent e-reader like me, Drudge is the ultimate news aggregator. While that site is nearly always my kickoff point for digital news searching, it pleases me to no end to learn that I can now get the same treatment when it comes to news about New Jersey. All thanks to the Jersey Report (the URL is really spelled www.jersreport.com). It’s a timely and telling new look at our home territory.
