Kyle Mulvey
A Hazlet teenager’s leadership and commitment to his community will have a lasting impact on the RAINE Foundation, the all volunteer local charity that delivers thousands of toys to hundreds of Bayshore families at Christmas and supports families in crisis everyday.
Kyle Mulvey, a Raritan High School junior and a Life Scout with Boy Scout Troop 66 of the Twin Lights District of the Monmouth County Council, Boy Scouts of America led 80 volunteers….fellow scouts and members of the Raritan wrestling and football teams..in building a new operations center for RAINE. Sheriff Shaun Golden
Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden is urging all residents and visitors to enjoy their 4th of July holiday celebrations while staying safe from the dangers of illegal fireworks.
“The result of fireworks being handled in the wrong way can cause serious injuries,” said Sheriff Golden. “It’s important to know that the danger is not only limited to general Fourth of July fireworks. Even sparklers should be kept away from children, as they can easily cause harm.”
Fireworks are dangerous, illegal and should only be handled by the professionals, Golden said. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, 230 people on average are treated for fireworks related injuries on a daily basis during the month around the July 4th holiday.

Elizabeth Honig, photo via facebook
Elizabeth Honig, 52, of the Morganville section of Marlboro Township, pleaded guilty in federal court today to stealing $2.8 million from a Veterans Administration program designed to help veterans find employment, according to a statement by Acting U.S. Attorney William E. Fitzpatrick.
Honig enrolled 182 veterans to receive federal funding to attend Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VARP) courses at Computer Insight Learning Center, an Eatontown company that she owns. The vast majority of the veterans were either not eligible for the training or did not attend at all. She collected $750 per month fees from the vets, and collected approximately $1.3 million from them of the $2,831,455 that the federal government distributed for tuition. She allowed the vets to keep the rest of the money paid to them by the VA.

BELMAR, NJ — On a day that should have been a time of celebration at Belmar Elementary School is a time of grief as the school mourns the drowning of one 13-year-old student and prays for the 12-year-old student who is clinging to life.
Today, June 16, marks the final day of the school year for Belmar Elementary School — less than 15 hours after two unidentified students, who were cousins, were pulled from the surf at the Ninth Avenue beach along Ocean Avenue. While attempts to save one of the girls were unsuccessful, the other girl is in critical condition on life-support at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
What makes the situation even more heart-wrenching is that the tragic scene began to unfold at about 6:30 p.m. on June 15 — the same time 55 eighth-graders were participating in their graduation ceremony at Belmar Elementary School, unaware of the massive emergency scene just six blocks away.
