Middletown Mayor Tony Perry has written New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal requesting the “immediate and full reversal” of his directive to close the Henry Hudson Trail.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office forwarded the Attorney General’s instructions that the trail be closed over the weekend to police departments of towns that host the trail, Perry told MMM.
More than five weeks after ordering New Jersey residents into a near-lockdown to slow the spread of the coronavirus, Gov. Phil Murphy will unveil his plan Monday to start rolling back those restrictions.
On Sunday night, Murphy tweeted a logo touting “The Road Back: Restoring Economic Health through Public Health” with the promise of more details at a noon briefing in Trenton, when state officials will also detail the latest status of the outbreak that has infected 109,038 and killed 5,938 New Jersey residents.

The adoption of a new federal aid package with billions of dollars in new funding for small businesses comes just as officials in New Jersey are beginning to give more attention to what the state’s recovery from the coronavirus pandemic will look like.
The new aid package signed into law by President Donald Trump includes at least $250 billion for small businesses, as well as significant funding for hospitals and testing initiatives that are considered crucial for addressing both public health and economic recovery goals.

But as the first few weeks of the season come to a close, Port Norris remains still, a sign of just how deep the COVID-19 pandemic has drilled into the state’s economy.
The coronavirus death toll in New Jersey increased Sunday to 5,938 people, with 109,038 total cases statewide, though the total number of state residents hospitalized dropped to a three-week low with 6,573 patients under treatment for a confirmed or suspected case.
The numbers announced by Gov. Phil Murphy include 75 additional deaths and 3,730 new positive tests reported in the last 24 hours. The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission’s agency, road testing and inspection facilities will remain closed at least until May 11, Commissioner Sue Fulton announced today.
The MVC facilities have been closed since March 13 due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Monmouth County recorded new 186 positive cases of COVID-19 overnight, bringing the total to 5,272, Freeholder Director Tom Arnone and Deputy Director Sue Kiley announced. The NJ Department of Health reports that 260 County residents have succumbed to the virus.
Monmouth County has been awarded $108 million in federal CARES Act funds, Freeholder Director Tom Arnone announced.
The $107,974,955.70 comes as part of the $2.2 trillion stimulus package signed into law last month and is to be used to offset the unexpected expenditures related to COVID-19 from March 1, 2020 through Dec. 30, 2020.
