Congressman Chris Smith has been endorsed for reelection by the 33,000 member New Jersey Police Benevolent Association.
In his letter to Smith announcing the endorsement, PBA President Patrick Colligan said:
While Washington remains bitterly divided over partisan and political matters, your service stands out in your commitment to the men and women of law enforcement in New Jersey and around the nation. You have remained true to New Jersey’s law enforcement community during your service in Congress. You fought for funding for officers and resources in our communities, to protect victims of crime and to ensure that the mental health and safety of our officers is a priority in this nation. And, most importantly, you have demonstrated respect for the officers who protect us when they have come under attack.
WASHINGTON, D.C.— The U.S. Air Force has issued the final decision to send 24 KC-46A tankers to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst after study found there would be no significant impact on the local environment, Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) announced on Monday.
“The joint base has cleared a major hurdle for the much-anticipated arrival of the KC-46A tankers,”said Smith, dean of the New Jersey congressional delegation who in July, 2016 led a delegation letter urging the Air Force to designate JB-MDL for the tankers. Smith was a leader in emphasizing the ideal location of JB-MDL for the tankers. Since 1985, ALZNJ, has provided support and education to local Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers. Over 600,000 people in New Jersey are affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia, including 175,000 individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.

Congressman Chris Smith met this week in Freehold with constituents impacted by Type 1 diabetes (T1D), as well as advocates and leaders of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
The Washington Blade, a website that claims to be America’s LGBT News Source, this morning posted a video, which they claimed was exclusive, which purports to represent Congressman Chris Smith telling students at Colts Neck High School that he thinks children would be better off in orphanages than they would be if adopted by a same-sex couple.
The Blade’s video is not exclusive nor does it represent what Congressman Smith said to the Colts Neck students that morning.

Congressman Chris Smith today pressed representatives of the State Department and the Drug Enforcement Agency to use the tools prescribed in the Global Magnitsky Act to sanction bad actors in China who are contributing to the opioid overdose crisis in the United States through the manufacture and distribution of the synthetic drug fentanyl.
“Chinese-made fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, is killing Americans—more than 29,000 in 2017 alone,” Smith said. “We must hold the Chinese government accountable.”(Click here to read Chairman Smith’s full opening statement)
“Are we using existing tools to hold bad actors in China accountable? We have tools, such as the Global Magnitsky Act, which targets corrupt officials and human rights abusers. Perhaps it is time we start thinking outside the box and use something like Global Magnitsky to ensure that corrupt Chinese officials and narco-traffickers are held to account,” Smith said during a hearing of the House Subcommittee on Global Heath, which he chairs.Read the rest of this entry »
Congressman Chris Smith, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs’ Subcommittee on Global Health, will hold a hearing on China’s role in the manufacturing and distribution of fentanyl, the synthetic opioid that is killing thousands of American citizens, on Thursday, September 6, 2 p.m., in the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing will be streamed live from the Committee’s website.
Smith announced the hearing during his remarks at Robbinville’s International Overdose Awareness Day last week.
Miguel Hernandez Colon, an 85 year old veteran of the Korean War, was honored for his military service by Congressman Chris Smith yesterday afternoon during a surprise ceremony attended by Hernandez’s family and friends at the Active Day Adult Day Health Center, in Hamilton.
Hernandez served in the 65th Infantry Regiment, based in Puerto Rico, from 1952 through 1954 and as a reservist for seven years. His unit, known and the “Borinqueneers,” was one of the last segregated units in the U.S. Military.
