Middletown Man Charged With Arson

Thomas A. Farzan, 30, was charged with Arson and Resisting Arrest after purposely setting his Cherry Tree Farm Lane family’s home on fire, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

At approximately 5:42 p.m., on March 4, the Middletown Township Police and Fire Departments responded to a fire at 161 Cherry Tree Lane. Upon arrival, authorities observed smoke billowing from the home.  Upon attempting to find an entry point to the home, officials noticed a male standing near the back door. Upon questioning, Farzan attempted to flee police and after a brief struggle, was arrested.

Richter wins in Ocean County

David Richter

David Richter defeated Kate Gibbs, 68-60, at the Ocean County GOP nominating convention on Wednesday evening, securing a favorable ballot position in the Republican primary for the right to take on Congressman Andy Kim in the Ocean portion of the 3rd Congressional District.

Gibbs won the support of the Burlington GOP at a convention last December.  The two will now face off in what could be an ugly primary campaign.

Ocean GOP Endorses Hirsh Singh for U.S. Senate

The Ocean County Republican nominating convention endorsed Hirsh Singh for the nomination to take on Senator Cory Booker in November.

Singh told MMM that his victory in Ocean would be like former VP Joe Biden’s victory in the South Carolina Democrat primary, and that he would now clear the field and secure the GOP nomination over Rik Mehta.

Conforti wins the Mercer County Dem Endorsement in CD-4

Christine Marie Conforti defeated Stephanie Schmid and David Applefield at the Mercer County Democrat nominating convention last evening.

The holistic business guru and former UN staffer will be the official Party candidate for Congress in the Mercer portion of 4th Congressional District in the June 2 primary.

Why Ocean County Republicans Should Endorse David Richter

Ocean County Republican leaders will convene in Toms River this evening.

Their most important order of business will be to endorse a primary candidate for the nomination to challenge Democrat Congressman Andy Kim in the 3rd District.  The candidate they chose will appear on the June 2 primary ballot in the same column as President Donald J. Trump, the Party’s U.S. Senate candidate (likely Rik Mehta), Freeholder Joe Vicari and the local candidates for municipal offices throughout the Ocean portions of the district.

David Richter is the best candidate to take on Congressman Kim in the general election.

Smith announces student art competition

The top winner—Best in Show—is recognized at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., and is displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol. The 2019 winner of Best in Show from the Fourth Congressional District was “Family Tree,” by Anna Effenberger, of Colts Neck, a 2019 graduate at the Ranney School. Anna’s work remains on display in the Capitol through June 2020.

High school students who live in the Fourth Congressional District of New Jersey (parts of Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean Counties) have until March 13 to enter the 2020 Congressional Art Competition, Congressman Chris Smith announced.

The competition is open to current high school students with artwork recently completed, or works specifically created just for the competition, that meet the originality, suitability, size and other entry guidelines of the national competition. Click here for 2020 rules of entry, entry forms, a list of towns in the Fourth District and other important information.

Monmouth County had 15% decline in opioid related deaths in 2019

There was a 15% decline in opioid related overdose deaths in 2019, according to a tweet by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

There was 167 overdose fatalities in the County in 2019, compared to 197 in 2018.

Scharfenberger’s legislation would ease property taxes

Assemblyman Gerry Scharfenberger, PhD has introduced his first bill.

A3284 would mandate that the Energy Receipts Tax, the fees that public utilities pay in lieu of property taxes, be paid directly to the municipalities they are intended for, rather than diverted into the State’s General Fund.
